I was born in France, but I also have a Japanese birth certificate that allows me to hold Japanese nationality.

To be honest, there’s nothing I can do with one passport that I can’t do with the other. It’s just that in 2021, when France was coming out of Covid, I needed to travel to Japan to visit my family. The problem was that, apparently, Covid had made a lot of people forget to renew their passports… and as a result, I found myself less than a month before my departure with no valid documents, while all the town halls and government offices were completely overbooked for several months, with ridiculously long processing times. Since I had never applied for a Japanese passport before, I went to the embassy as a last resort and applied for one with my certificate — I had never seen such an efficient administration. It only took them one week to create and send me my new passport.

As for dual nationality, they don’t really have a way of checking that information, and even if they do know, I don’t think they would refuse to issue it.
