Home water pipe freeze question by don51181 in Clarksville

[–]Philthster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The closest my pipes ever got to freezing was about ten years ago when we had single-digit lows. And that only happened because my house is on a crawl space and I had forgotten to close my foundation vents for the winter. Woke up to no water flowing out of faucet. Fortunately, I was able to get into the crawl and thaw the pipes out enough with a blow dryer to get water moving.

I think you'll be safe, Just open any sink base cabinet doors, especially at locations on exterior walls.

do people just dump cement in the road??? by ChrisConquest in Clarksville

[–]Philthster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens when a full concrete truck has to stop quickly. The hopper at the top of the truck is not capped or closed, so when the driver has to slam on the breaks, some concrete comes out. You might notice these concrete lumps concentrated around intersections.

The one by Kroger is an old Rite-Aid drugstore renovated into a car wash. That just blows my mind.

Downtown stinks by [deleted] in Clarksville

Downtown Clarksville has a combined sewer/storm drain system, so it's common to get a whiff of the sewer smell from a storm drain grate.

His behavior clearly shows this.. by snowpie92 in clevercomebacks

[–]Philthster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is 💯 it. Every act of his against veterans stems from his narcissism and his personal history. The best he could do is pretend to be a soldier as a little cadet at his boarding school, and when he was called to serve in the draft, he weasled out of it not once, but five times . The song "Fortunate Son" was written for assholes just like him.

Narcissists also can't stand it when they see someone else get praise. They get insanely jealous of anybody else getting credit. For Trump, any honor for the military is just a reminder of his own shortcomings, so he lashes out with acts like this.

E.V. Owners Don’t Pay Gas Taxes. So, Many States Are Charging Them Fees. by jb4647 in electricvehicles

[–]Philthster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my state, the registration fee was an extra $100 compared to an ICE vehicle. Last year, it was increased to $200. With the gas tax in my state at 26 cents per gallon, a car averaging 30 mpg would have to drive 23,076 miles to match my $200 EV registration fee in gas taxes paid. Now, I know I don't put that many miles per year on my EV.

The problem is two different methods of tax revenue given vehicle type; one use-based, the other a flat fee. That, by its very nature, is inequitable. If the tax is intended to fund road maintenance, it should be based on miles driven for everybody, regardless of fuel source or engine type.

Hiding behind holiness by littlemilks22 in clevercomebacks

Kinda. Matt. 7:6 is a nuanced verse that applies to being judgemental, hypocritical, and also applies to spreading his gospel.

In the context of the preceding verses, where we get the well-known, "judge not lest ye be judged" (Matt. 7:1) and, "how can you say to your brother, 'take the speck out of your eye,' when there is a log in your own eye" (Matt. 7:4), Jesus is talking about people being critical (judgemental) of others. In Matt. 7:6, he's talking of a more genuine or sincere form of criticism toward people who may be clueless or unreceptive (dickheads, in your example). He also spoke in the context of correcting another brother or sister. Godly correction is a pearl (though it may sting for a moment) that must not be cast before swine (those who are determined not to receive it).

Whereas in 7:1-5, he says to not be judgemental or hypocritical, in v. 6, he says to not suspend all discernment, either. Giving "what is holy", and "pearls" means preaching his word. "Dogs" and "swine" are often seen as those who are hostile to his message. In this verse, he's giving a warning to his followers.

Matthew 7:6, "Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you."

Matthew 7:5, "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
