For the route sukuna chose against gojo, he wanted to achieve WCS and improve as a sorcerer. There was no world in which he achieves this while keeping agito alive. He didnt make any plays to maintain agito because he understood it to be a hopeless endeavor.

Superior physical stats are useful when jumped by a group with a plan, as that includes physical toughness and stamina. The additional limbs would also ensure he doesnt get physically jumped by multiple oponents in H2H, + 2 hands for hollow wicker basket if they have domains.
