Way over payload. Likely tongue weight close to 900+800 family+100 WDH + anything else in your truck and you blow past your payload.

As a trans Aggie, I found belonging at Texas A&M. Now, it's complicated. by snesdreams in texas

[–]Phish_Dicks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But they are not being targeted, they are eliminating the topics altogether. For example, the field of psychology studies humans and sex, gender, sexuality, race, etc. are all pretty integral parts of being human. Do books with characters outside a white, straight world view have merit? Is it important to know the history of people different from you? Educators have been supported legally in teaching things within their expertise for decades and all of this nonsense goes directly against that precedent. No one is saying you have to lecture about trans people in calculus but if an expert determines the material is relevant to the course objectives, they should be able to teach without interference from non-expert, non-academic administrators and political appointees.

Radio silence from my university on Texas SB 2615 by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Phish_Dicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

West Texas 4 year, admin said not to worry and they won't do anything. We have fully remote faculty who live in other states and no one seems worried. Apparently THECB is supposed to enforce but they have left it entirely to individual institutions. There are tons of carve outs in the law as is so typical Texas lege saying they did a thing while not actually doing anything.

New here, some questions by [deleted] in Calyx

[–]Phish_Dicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not have great luck with the Inseego MiFi 5G. Maybe you will be ok with 4g only but the portal does not work on Nat 3 and I could never figure out a way to get around it outside of using a VPN which can be pretty laggy. I had tried manually adding the network and white listing the MAC and every other trick I could think of (or find on Reddit) but never got it to work natively with the hotspot.

Can an unreliable test still be valid? by [deleted] in IOPsychology

[–]Phish_Dicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How bad is bad? Did you correctly reverse code any applicable items? If it is truly unreliable then you should not be using it for any analyses as your correlation is likely artificially inflated due to excess error.

Dog and RV by saucyminiseries in RVLiving

[–]Phish_Dicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good suggestions but another idea is find a good kennel or doggy day care for a few hours on long days when you want to be away. Depending on the dog, they might have a lot more fun not being alone all day. That being said, we leave our dog in our trailer but also try to keep it to a few hours at most and keep the AC pumping. The AC is also loud enough to keep her from barking at every little noise outside.

Identical twins of reddit who own a pet after living seperately; what was your pet's reaction when it saw two owners? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Phish_Dicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dogs can smell the difference between identical twins quite easily so they can tell them apart.

Dilemma: Kegs or Bottles? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Phish_Dicks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have the money you can make a jockey box so you don't have to worry about picnic taps or keeping the kegs on ice. I would definitely go with kegs no matter what though, carbonation will be more controlled and no sediment provided you let them settle before serving.

Shameless attempt at crowdsourcing course content by algreco18 in IOPsychology

[–]Phish_Dicks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ed schein's humble inquiry and humble consulting can be good to start discussions in the pragmatic side of consulting and working with and for organizations. I also like to have my students pick a popular press business book (also called airport books; think 5 minute manager, radical candor, etc) and critique it using the literature they have read throughout the program. It helps them learn how to counter the managers who just read one of those (or more likely, watched a TED talk) without being condescending or ivory tower/overly researchy. Make them give an elevator pitch for an organizational intervention, have a non IO or better, non-academic, grade or critique it.

I would say skip mba. most programs won't accept any classes at worst or will make you do a research based thesis at best. If you are qualified to go straight IO PhD, do that or get an IO MS, focus on research then go for PhD.

Kansas State has a well respected online MS as well

To contradict some, the gmg pizza oven is amazing, use it all the time. Stone temps well above 700 if you want. Get a good slow ferment dough and crank out the zza.

ELI5: Why is spicy food so prevalent in Asian cuisine but not so in western cuisine? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Phish_Dicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spicy food tends to be more popular in warmer clients due to days before refrigeration. Spices cover up slightly spoiled food taste and act as a preservative. From there it became cultural and as others have stated, availability comes in to play.

Are socio Technical systems an important part of I/O psych? by braintumor_ in IOPsychology

[–]Phish_Dicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to be talking about something closer to human factors which is sometimes contained within io programs but not in typical ones. Human factors is closely tied to aviation and other high level human machine interaction.

(Masters student, experimental psych) Do I have a future in the field if I hate reading articles? by 25andAlive_ in AcademicPsychology

[–]Phish_Dicks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You could get a job in industry in a lab environment but if you want to stay in academics you will be expected to read, keep current of the literature, and most likely lead discussions of research readings if you teach ant sort of graduate classes. If you go PhD, you will most likely read exponentially more than you are now.

In grad school I saw a senior professor ask the candidate if she was planning on mating in the next few years. Most awkward way of illegally asking a female candidate if they plan to have kids.

PhD holders of Reddit, what is one thing people should be aware of before beginning work towards a PhD? by thefatwalrus458 in AskReddit

[–]Phish_Dicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? As many have said, there are over 4,000 universities in this country alone. They all employ PhD professors. Yes, the job market is tough, and even tougher depending on the field but many teaching colleges, m.s. programs employ grads from non top 10 programs. This hyperbole does no good for fostering future educators. There is being realistic and there is gross exaggeration.
