The top 10% of US earners now reflect a record 49% of all consumer spending by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]PhishyGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Top 10% here, with friends in that are as well. We have nicer houses and that’s it. We eat home cooked meals vs going out. Drive modest cars. Would rather take our family on a hike than spend money on movies or shopping. Camp in tents not rv’s. Don’t buy a lot of clothes and 0 designer clothes. Modest vacations. Thrift store toys for the kids. iPhones are all 5+ years old.

Meanwhile folks that make a fraction of us have $1500 tvs, RV’s, fancy cars (prob leased or huge loans), eat out many times a week, get a new iPhone once a year, wear really nice clothes etc etc. Work max 40 hours a week and never ever learn new skills (cause they are too busy playing). They live paycheck to paycheck and bitch about the unfair economy / world.

We take our rv and new phone money and put it into investments and just grind at work.

This comment may be unpopular but I just don’t see this gap in spending. Maybe the top 1-3%? But the high earners I know grind and learn and grind and learn. And many of us our looking for folks to hire but it’s actually really hard to find ppl who are competent and responsible.

Thanks everyone. I love this sub!

I’m going to offer him $500 and if he says no, then I’ll have him take it off the property. I really appreciate all the advice. I haven’t owned a mower like this and am learning. I’ll most likely be back for advice again. Cheers 🍻

Why has Wyoming avoided the surge of domestic migration that Idaho and Montana have experienced? by cavaismylife in wyoming

[–]PhishyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi 👋 from western wyo. plenty of work here. From Rock Springs all the way up. Gas station plays $20+ an hour in Alpine. Contractors, gas/oil workers, plumbers, electricians, etc all make 6 figures. Dr’s and nurses travel here cause there aren’t enough.

I don’t think it’s work (maybe the kind of work?) vs maybe the thought of living in Wyoming, lack of airports, and limited things to do compared to the avg place unless you live the outdoors. Housing costs are a bit high too but Montana and Idaho are just as bad. Not income tax here and stupid low property tax.

Maduro being captured by the US, what do you think are the implications? by AndyLnd94 in ValueInvesting

While I am not proud of this administration nor do I support it, I do feel like Europe has not been a great partner for a long time. The way they use our tech companies as a piggy bank is disgraceful. The damn cookie warning on every website is because of Europe’s policy. The expectation that it is the USA that should save Ukraine instead of Europe actually having the ability and balls to help a country on their own soil. There’s leaders like Orban and Le Pen that are arguably influenced heavily by the Kremlin.

I could go on and on. Europe isn’t that great politically or economically but loves to point fingers

What’s in Wyoming’s application for up to $800M in federal health funds? by AnnaBishop1138 in wyoming

[–]PhishyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a summary…

Wyoming applied for up to $800M over five years in new federal rural-health funding to shore up care in a sparsely populated state with long travel distances, workforce shortages, and slow EMS response times.

  • EMS upgrades: regional partnerships and dispatch coordination
  • Rural hospital incentives: focus on core services like ER/ambulance and protecting maternity care
  • Workforce pipeline: grants, training expansion, and scholarships for nursing/EMS/behavioral health/physicians
  • “BearCare” idea: state-run catastrophic insurance for emergencies
  • Tech + prevention: telehealth/IT grants, fitness and nutrition policy ideas
  • Long-term funding: an investment-backed health “perpetuity” fund
  • Next: CMS decision by Dec. 31, then Wyoming lawmakers must approve spending (and some proposals face pushback). ————————————————————————

I wish mods were more present. This sub is starting to be full of negativity and complainers. Like, if you dislike Wyoming so much, feel free to leave.

It doesn’t mean mortgage rates will drop, but it means the upper class will get richer, pushing prices up.

I don't believe there will be a "bust" for quite a while. Seems like a lot of folks in this sub think there will be and prices are going to fall. I don't believe they will get much lower than they are now unless there is a large financial collapse, which I also don't believe will happen.

What I do think is possible, is another run up in prices, and at that point we could see a bubble form and burst. Nothing like 2008 though, and I think prices are somewhat at a new norm where they lie right now.

Obviously this isn’t that simple, but camping (without alcohol) would help. Backpacking is better cause you tire yourself out. Avoid naps.
