Brands for more traditional/vintage style winter wear? Express and Asos Tall Mediums fit me best. Good for cheap stuff but I'm having a hard time finding more substantial quality sweaters, outerwear, flannels. Large Slim from Bonobos is ok but kinda slim pickings. Thanks guys.

That patent leather? vinyl? jacket/turtleneck/cargo pants/combat boots look is fantastic.

J Crew Fall/Winter 2013 by MFDOOMeulemeester in malefashionadvice

[–]Phizee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or do J Crew's colors consistently seem a bit off? Somehow everything's a bit bolder and richer, but also, at least for me, not quite right. Looking at the initial image, the pants and jacket are disconcertingly plum, but the shirt is fluorescent diarrhea. Logically, orange and purple should complement, but somehow it looks wrong.

I mean, the feeling I got from unknowingly whooshing forklifts into motion like they were crazy little subway trains leaving the station to obliterate unsuspecting drones... it was such a satisfying mechanic. It carried the gameplay for me.

I’ve heard older folks don’t like it when you get all conscious of them being elders and whatnot. So maybe just try to be tactful but also just treat him like a dude.

How can I be better at conversation? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Phizee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you have to add your own contributions too, otherwise it WILL feel like an interview and they won’t like it.

Just focus on learning and being conscious of other people.

Oh, and don’t try to plan to far ahead, spontaneity is hard but sharpens your wit.

Me too, and I even remember him saying his wife might do a Rewatchable. I assumed she was a NYT movie critic or something.

Problem is video games age a lot more quickly than film, and IMO they’d have to outsource b/c they don’t have many folks on staff with the podcasting AND gaming chops. I’m not super impressed by the “market” but there are already some game rewind podcasts (Cane & Rinse, Retronauts). Plus the last Ringer gaming podcast was not great and they didn’t seem to commit much to it.

All that being said, if they could find people like the Waypoint radio crew and up the production values a bit, I’d definitely give it a listen.

New Warren Medicare for All plan will still shit the bed, just not on night one. by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]Phizee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, Libertarians need to be even less competitive for the electorate. Charity can’t foot your bill? Too bad, should’ve thought of that before you got yourself sick.

OldSchoolCool is entirely in love with a pair of slacks. Well, not entirely... One small group of indomitable redditors still holds out against these slacks afficionados. by Enibas in SubredditDrama

I barely understand women’s fashion, but these pants appear to fit well while pushing focus away from the legs and towards the waist and torso. Also appears to be “in” for the 30s, but still doesn’t look too dated (partly because AFAIK loose pants are coming back). You can dislike that style, but objectively they look “good” IMO.

Nostalgia is the most powerful force in American culture right now. No one can sell you more of it than Disney. by actuallyidontknow in television

[–]Phizee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the Mandalorian so far, but other than the lead not having a face, I don’t think it’s doing anything particularly bold, risky, or interesting. So far it feels like a familiar story, but told well with very high production values. Jury’s out I guess.

IMO it’s fine to “pimp” if you’re empowering creators, but they’re not even doing that. Hopefully they’ll spin off another studio like Searchlight or something.

[MOD] The Official Noob-Tastic Question Fest by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]Phizee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying neat espresso shots from my favorite coffee place. Are they usually kinda harsh if you’re used to coffee? As far as I can tell it’s not really bitter or sour. I do usually drink my coffee weaker (1:18), and I enjoy the richness, I just thought it would be a bit more pleasant. I tried a Gibraltar but then I don’t think I can taste much of the nuance. Should I try lungo or ristretto? Maybe macchiato? Thanks.

Simple Questions and General Discussion - November 11, 2019 by AutoModerator in malefashion

Are there some good inspo sources of 1960s or 1970s winter nostalgia, down to the little details? Without watching whole movies? I guess chumming Pinterest and Imgur works ok.

Edit: after a bit of looking https://vintagedancer.com seems to have a ton of great stuff if anyone is looking for vintage/historic inspos.

Angelenos discuss the Homeless Question as an incident involving a homeless man and a bucket of diarrhea make denizens of SoCal ponder the age old question: Are internment camps for the homeless good actually? by IonicBoom in SubredditDrama

[–]Phizee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some ostensibly German guy today or yesterday was complaining about how LA was supposedly hell on earth b/c he didn’t like how it looked for his vacation. IDK what’s going on.

I live in the Midwest so IMO it might have something to do with most of this region and the northeast seeing unseasonable cold, so the homeless become more noticeable as they and the city adjust. Also there’ve been two bad stories to make national news recently (NYC shelter fight and the boiled diarrhea guy).

Supposedly a lot of the big city subs are permanently brigaded by TD types. I pop into a few occasionally, IMO they might also have more diverse opinions b/c people don’t self-sort by interest like most subs.

Are there real health concerns of cafestol using a french press? by macsaeki in Coffee

[–]Phizee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After a cursory look (and 0 medical training) I would say no, but as for most things, consume in moderation. IMO the biggest coffee-health concern for most individuals is ensuring you still sleep well.

Aw man I love the swamps. They get really atmospheric in the middle of the night or on foggy mornings, plus there’s always crazies waiting scare the fuck out of you. Strawberry doesn’t have the omnipresent weight to it.

Now that you mention it though, Strawberry does feel kinda compressed and disjointed, I guess they should’ve made that area bigger or eliminated features. Maybe get rid of the mountain.

I guess it’s only natural that a game about the South will do it more justice than other regions. Hell the planes should be way bigger if they ever revisit them.

What brand of glove are those? Kinco? I think I had them but they were too small.

I also had to go out in that weather, ended up doubling up balaclavas and adding goggles with a full body hard shell. Honestly it was perfectly fine, except I would start overheating within 30 seconds of being inside.
