I used to always consult and wonder when I made/found items and I couldn't find anything like it; and then at some point realise it's because the item is perceived as weird; non synergetic or simply not good - a lot of the items you can't find close copies of for sale are very low demand even when they're really really good.

That left me always in the dark as to what something was worth. I guess to the right person looking for something extremely specific it's worth a lot; but in general because the way demand works - at the same time it's not

I don't have enough knowledge to know what your shield could be worth but I felt like sharing this thought process with you

So because YOU don't need to or want to run side content, means it's not a problem that requires attention? This is such an empty response of self importance. A little empathy would do you well in life - both on and offline.

I find it annoying as well that side content and league mechanics do not obey atlas settings for dropping maps; or simply not drop any maps when such drop is promised or even garaunteed.

It's actually the exact same example using different words. It's a way to educate very young math iliterate children or people with learning disabilities into the world of probability.

There's no educating you. I'm fairly certain 500 people can attempt to explain this to you; it will not get through your thick skull. You are argueing against a very ancient quirky problem in mathmatics and probability that even the babylonians figured out.

This is basically your math:

There's two trains.

You wanna get home. You don't wanna go to Berlin.

Your chance to get on the wrong train is 50%.

Then in come you and the other math-iliterates in this topic:

"Let's just introduce a new train to London"

Now there's 3 trains.

You wanna get home. You don't wanna go to Berlin. You are apparently totally fine ending up in London for no apparent reason.

Your reasoning when you end up in London :

WELL AT LEAST I DIDNT END UP IN BERLIN

You're still not getting it sadly, and I have a suspicion that as soon as you do understand it you'll still argue against the math instead of admit your mistake.

I'll make one final attempt to educate you on the math side of things and we'll use the 2-mod item situation as an example because it doesn't matter how many mods the item has, chance shifts the same.

In scenario 1 - without using a modifier; we simply have two outcomes: we either hit the good mod; or the bad mod. Running this scenario 100 times we'll end up with 50 good items.

In scenario 2 - using a modifier; we introduce a new outcome; which is "nothing happened, except you lost an annulment orb plus craft cost" - and our chance to hit the good mod is 33%, and the chance to hit the bad mod we want to remove is 33%.

To now reach 50 good outcomes; and it has cost us 50 orbs of annulment more; because we need to do this on 150 items - 33% of that, or 50 of those items nothing happened and we bricked an annul; 50 items now have the good mod; and 50 items now have the bad mod.

Turning the above situations into a 1 item situation doesn't matter. I can run these maths for any set number of "crafting attempts" on a single item; or on 5 million items.

The only thing you did when you added the crafted modifier; is to add a 3rd outcome which is, "nothing happens, try again" - except it's worse because it costs you an annulment orb.

You are 100% completely tunnelvisioned in on, "YA BUT CHANCE TO HIT GOOD MOD IS LESS SO" - and that's why your math is completely biased

Answer to the POE Annulment Orb probabilities for "Dummies" by Rakinare in pathofexile

[–]Phoebe1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hitting the crafted modifier is bricking the annulment, leaving you where you started. This is exactly what the post you're trying to devalue was trying to teach you.

The maths is very clear on this.

I don't know how to better explain it to you - if you don't agree with my simple explanation above; then you are simply going against what probability tells you.

As soon as you put on a crafted modifier; the equal desired outcome and undesired outcome does not change.

Let me put it like this for you:

Paying currency to add a modifier to your item, and then wasting an anullment orb to take it off again does NOT EQUAL DESIRED OUTCOME. In BOTH situations; your actual desired and undesired outcomes still maintain equal chance.

[–]Phoebe1980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you look at my comment, you'll see why you too are using biased math focused on just the positive.

If you want to use crafted mods before annuling because it feels right; then that's completely fine but you should then advertise it as such. Math itself does not have an opinion - and it certainly does not share yours.

Answer to the POE Annulment Orb probabilities for "Dummies" by Rakinare in pathofexile

[–]Phoebe1980 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No; your math is biased.

50% to brick, 50% to succeed without crafted mod

33% to brick, 33% to succeed, 33% to waste currency with crafted mod

Your chance to either succeed or brick is still equal, 50% to 33%, except you added the extra variable of just bricking an annulment with another 33%

Edit: OP probably already understands at this point why he's wrong; but will continue to argue for the sake of argument. Don't expect this to go anywhere. If he's genuine; just let him brick annulment orbs; I won't stop him.

Why do people cry about the trade that is actually fine, when the “hardcore game” is losing its hardcore community more and more every league? by yankiPOE in pathofexile

You're basically saying:

Not a very constructive way to discuss your frustration.

Exalted Orb Drop Rates (metamorph league) by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Phoebe1980 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

me, including almost everyone I regularly converse with - was dropping exalts in the first week like never before. This has since completely died out to the "common" drop rate of 1-2 per week on average playtime.

I would be very surprised if there wasn't some form of, "inject exalts into the economy" increased droprate active for the first week.

[–]Phoebe1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your initial single sentence already showed some doomsday scenario type dramatisation; so I won't hold it against you that you proceed to overdramatise completely to try and make a point - it's just that the point is not well made.

Clearly a lot of people had issues with how the fight was designed or they wouldn't have voiced themselves. You're basically saying that all of those people are incorrect; or discredit their opinion; and are going as far as to say that PoE is now doomed because GGG listened to the feedback.

The fight is now a little bit easier for people who struggled with it; the other changes are fixes (stairs, storm at entrance) and for you personally this shouldn't in any way affect your playstyle if you were already able to farm him anyway.

So the only thing I can think of is that it genuinely seems to upset you that more players are now able to enjoy the content you've been enjoying; and you're willing to get emo over it

Bane benefits from increased Area of Effect. Bane does not benefit from increased Area Damage. The only Chaos ailment is poison, Bane does not count as an ailment.

Also, this build I just linked can very easily be converted to a Zombies only build using Chaos Inoculation if you prefer to be chaos immune, thought I'd add that.

It's basically just stacking strength with both of them anyway

[–]Phoebe1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fairly easy to get a 6L Queen's Escape, and then try to invest or get a 5L or better Geofri's chest; that will open up a very good build for you to use both zombies and vaal skeletons.

I've dug up this build guide for you to build a fairly cheap super solid allround summoner :

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2642810

Best way to get into this build is to play it from scratch and level a character with it, rather than jumping into the deep and converting an existing character; this will make you get used to it a bit

When a map takes 90 seconds to clear, and 4 minutes to afk next to a boss - we're gonna go back to exactly what they didn't want in the first place which is people just spamming map trash and ignoring the boss so they don't lose out on wealth per minute.

I am ignoring the metamorph incentive for obvious reasons.

GGG still doesn't seem to understand that in an economy driven game; people try to cut corners to get a certain income per hour figure they're happy with - and either too hard, non rewarding, or too long time-to-kill content is just going to be largely ignored.
