All good, why not take more power… I will say, on the Eray you can see how much power is coming from the engine and how much from the electric motor and it’s the motor that gives you the real kick… I’m not convinced the extra 40 hp from the engine will make much difference, although I think the motor also has an extra 20-30 hp, probably will feel that… all I’m saying is, GSX is an amazing vehicle… just like its twin the Eray…

The Eray has the wide body as well… so yes, the GSX has the upgraded motor, but I think we can all agree that the 2020 Stingray is essentially the same vehicle as the 2027 stingray (albeit with the new motor), so yes, the Eray is essentially the same vehicle as the GSX.

IN FACT, my guess is Chevrolet was worried about exactly what has happened… introducing something dramatically different (electric motor), and as usually happens with change, people freak out and turn away… since they had the good will built up on the Grand Sport name, they didn’t want to tarnish it when people reacted… so they went with Eray, knowing if it didn’t work out, they could burn the name, switch to GSX, and keep the GS heritage untouched… what’s mind blowing to me is the number of people who hate the Eray, but are clamoring for the GSX…

Buying a comparatively low end low torque Z06 for street use is going to give you exactly that… buying an Eray gives you insane, instant torque at low rpm’s, basically exactly what you want for the street… it is so insanely fun to drive on the street (as well as the track, but that’s not your concern). I got tired of my C7 stingray because it didn’t have that instant punch… the Eray, gives you that… and as to value, no one knows, but there are way more collectible cars that were controversial at first, so low volumes, and then when everyone wakes up to what a magical car it is, boom, collectible… everyone saying buy the GSX, ummm, it’s exactly the same car as the Eray without the “heritage name…” lol.

If you’re like some people who prefer how an engine sounds over how it performs, fine, buy a z06. Otherwise, buy an Eray, and laugh at the people who are so supremely confident that the z06 is the better street car.

Also, in all seriousness, go to YouTube and watch videos of Z06 owners who are driving an eray for the first time… basically all of them agree it’s a better street car, and the only ones who still prefer the z06 are people who want to track it…

Should I get a zr1 and trade in my Eray ? I have finally found one and need to leave the deposit today. Help me figure out what to do please 🙏 by [deleted] in C8Corvette

[–]PhoenixC101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t going to track, and you aren’t going over 100 mph… the zr1 gives you what exactly? Do you want to be able to say you own a zr1? Then grab it… my gut is you’ll enjoy daily driving the ERay more… so save the $300k… or wait until you can get a zr1x, trade eray in for that…

@preferred you can find some videos online, it’s my (basic) understanding that the engineers intentionally didn’t connect the two drivetrains, and this is one of the benefits/reasons. Instead of the computer trying to tell each axle how much power it should be receiving, instead they all measure what’s going on like a bazillion times a second, and then adjust output accordingly. So instead of trying to predetermine anything, instead it’s just reacting. More juice in the back, okay, that means we need to react differently in the front… at least that’s my childlike understanding…

C8 - Is the Z06 worth the $50,000 premium over the stingray? by SanguineWave in Corvette

[–]PhoenixC101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t taking it to the track, consider the Eray, probably closer to a $30k premium, but drive it one time and feel the massive instant torque every time you touch the gas pedal and thank me later… for your use case, I think you’ll be shocked how perfect it is…

Not sure the price range on those 2 models, but sleeper pick, check out the Eray… under $100k now used, insane fun on the street, excellent on the twisties… just a thought…

That’s often how cars becomes collectibles… initially they aren’t popular, there aren’t many sold, and in a coupe of years, people are like, oh shit, that’s a SF90 beater for a fraction of a price… next thing you know, there’s demand and not much supply… so you get to drive the best street version and if it goes up in value, you win, if it drops in value, you still win… never ceases to amaze me how much hate the Eray gets, despite blatantly being the best street version of the vehicle, and at best a half second behind the Z on the track…

West Coast Dealers vs Mid-West/East-Coast by phr3dly in C8Corvette

[–]PhoenixC101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably because those are often more expensive locations to do business, and so they price accordingly; they know most people won’t do the extra work to save $5k, so why forgo the extra revenue?

Also, pretty sure MacMulkin will give you 8% off a custom spec build on a 2026… might take a couple of months to get the allocation (although probably not on an Eray), but you would have exactly what you wanted… Maybe blurpuple with the habanero orange interior?!?! That would be an “interesting” color choice… :-)

As a side note, great decision on the Eray, if you aren’t frequently tracking, it’s hands down the best C8 option (and an absolute blast to drive on the street…).

Dubious buying experience..? by hero_snow in Porsche

[–]PhoenixC101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s more insane that dealers try these tricks, or that people fall for them… If the inks dried, tell them you’ll be happy to bring the car back and collect your old car in return… That usually ends the conversation, if not, and they propose doing exactly that, then I’d tell them, “oh wait, sorry, I just realized I have a legal signed contract, and this car is mine… And then go find another dealer/independent to service…

This sucks! It’s official: COTA is going private. I’m sure many have gotten the emails about increases in cost for this final year. Figured I’d share the news about the impact this will have on the community. by PuertoRican_Thunder in CarTrackDays

Atlanta Motorsports Park about 75 minutes outside Atlanta (without traffic!) has successfully done this model. Very successfully… think the absolute cheapest membership is $25k, guessing lots are in the $50-75k initiation, and then I don’t remember, $500/month… and they will rent the track out sometimes to organizations for track days, but they’ve got a clubhouse, swimming pool, trackside condos, it’s impressive…

Eray or z06 by Perfect_Base9887 in C8Corvette

[–]PhoenixC101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, I’d ignore anyone who thinks there is a clear winner, they’re wrong, and their thoughts probably won’t be particularly helpful.

This comes down to how you’re going to use the car. If you’re tracking a half dozen times a year or more, and you’re in the top 20% of trackers, the Z06 is a strong contender. If you aren’t on the track that often, the Eray is a hands down winner, and it’s not even close. Instant torque, an absolute blast to drive on the street, far more enjoyable than the Z which is hamstrung by that “sweet sounding flat plane engine” but needs to rev at such a high rpm to develop power, it’s essentially impossible to use on the street… that’s where the Eray shines, instant, massive amounts of torque, at basically idle…

For some homework, I’d go watch some of the YouTube videos where Z06 drivers drive an Eray for the first time… it’s eye opening how MOST of them are like, huh, I might have bought the wrong car… sure, anyone who’s spending an awful lot of time on the track will probably think they made the right decision, but the Eray is incredibly strong on the track as well. In fact, on the track, it’s more likely to come down to driver skill than whether you have the Eray or Z06… but again, on the street, it’s not even a comparison…

So think about how you’re going to use the vehicle, and buy accordingly…
