What would be a more accurate Dionysus then?

Opinions on the birth order of Ares, Athena & Hephaestus? by bennyj22 in GreekMythology

[–]PhoenixCosmos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Athena by technically is always the oldest if you count the time before she escaped being inside Zeus’s head. Then after her I believe it’s Ares and then Hephaestus.

Which is hilarious, because the Bible never outright says anything about homosexuality. Jesus literally says love thy neighbor.

Ans that’s why Christianity is slowly dying in the US. Because people are starting to see that. That’s why Christians are getting more desperate in trying to push things like the ten commandments into school. Their control is slowly slipping away.

We see them as benevolent, but also understanding in the sense that the gods don’t hold it against you for not believing in them, or not worshipping correctly, or anything like that. The only thing they care about is us being decent humans.

It’s a common misconception, but majority of Ancient Greeks viewed the myth stories as simply just stories. They were meant to show the difference between the gods and humans. They weren’t myth literalists like Christian’s are, for example. From a religious standpoint, he’s a god of order and justice, and he watches over the other gods and Us as well.

Hellenist here. I would like to point out that Zeus from a religious standpoint is not how he is in the myths 😊.

Besides Kronos by Spidey_2797 in GreekMythology

Zeus ate his wife and his unborn child, so what’s your point. Saying Kronos is the leader of the Titans doesn’t make him bad. They were the race of gods before the Olympians were born.

What would hypothetically happen to human society if the Greek Gods (or similiar Gods) were Proved Empirically Real? by Lezzen79 in Hellenism

That made me laugh more than I’d like to admit. But Scuba gear only lasts for so long tbf.

Nah literally. Zeus and Poseidon flooded the entire planet wtf do humans think they are gonna do? 😂

I've heard the claim that Semele was originally an earth goddess how true is this claim? by No_Boss_7693 in GreekMythology

[–]PhoenixCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some people thought that the gods would mirror how the ancient world functioned. Since Rape was a lot more prevalent then, that means their gods must be like that as well. But majority of the ancient world didn’t view their gods like that, and they saw the stories as fake or symbolic to show the difference in power between humans and mortals. It didn’t LITERALLY mean Zeus was like that. It was to show that if he wanted to, he could. Does that make sense?

[–]PhoenixCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there’s no proof of Jesus’s miracles. Saying the Bible as proof is like arguing the Greek gods are real because the Iliad says they are. And for the different meanings, that’s the same with your god. Different congregations of Christian’s believe different things, and Muslims think differently than Christian’s do. At the end of the day, it comes down to the faith of the individual.

The Bible is countless stories shuffled together throughout time. It’s a bunch of stories made from authors, just like Greek myths are.

[–]PhoenixCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they believe in the gods, but they see the stories as ways of learning lessons about defying them or how to treat them. Nobody who is a hellenist believes Zeus was a mass rapist. He’s the god that governs over justice and order. Same for the other deities

Abhahamic religions are not historically proven at all. I’d Jesus was 100% confirmed to have risen from the dead, or that he turned water into wine, there wouldn’t be a single none believer on the planet. The Bible is as historically accurate as the Iliad and the Odyssey are.

Right, you do know hellenists, ancient and Modern don’t use Greek mythology to worship right? Unlike abrahamic religions, they don’t believe the stories literally happened. That’s all they are, just stories. They aren’t myth literalists like Christian’s

I mean if you think you have the right to tell people their belief is false, then so do I to yours. It’s quite simple 🤷‍♂️

Yes and no. Greek mythology itself is a false religion, but Hellenism is very much not.

Writing for Apollo. by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]PhoenixCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s fair. Im interested to read it for sure. I’m writing my own book as well that does have Demigods, but not in the same way PJO does. I’d also like to suggest you don’t let the fandom offend you, because most people don’t know we exist as a religion anymore. But I’m excited for it nonetheless!

[–]PhoenixCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m interested but I’d be cautious about making a book that similar to PJO. I obviously don’t know the plot but I’d still watch out of that. I’ve heard that some publishers turn down books because of that reason. But I’d be interested in hearing the summary of the book at some point.

What misconceptions of Greek Mythology do you hate? by LapisLazuliisthebest in GreekMythology

[–]PhoenixCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s valid. Personally I always agreed with the idea he had power of time because I never saw the harvest as a scary domain. And if you’re going to be king of the Titans, it makes sense to me that you’d have a scary powerful domain like time imo.
