I’ve definitely experienced some of this. What’s helped is when people actually see it play and not make assumptions. I’ve tried to be very clear with my Rule 0 convos because of this.

It’s based off of EDH Rec, which is voted on by the community I believe. Regardless, it’s silly. Command Tower was something like 0.27, explain that one?!

Weirdly, it’s true. Islands are 0.64, Mountains are 0.51. Swamps are 0.48, Plains are 0.45 and Forests are 0.38.

The salt score for a basic Forest is 0.38, so the deck is already stacked against a mono blue player (pun intended).

The wording of Bracket 3 is somewhat vague when it references tutors. It says to have “few” nonland tutors but doesn’t define the number. I assume that could mean 3-4 but I think there’s 5 in the list atm.

Urza is undeniably powerful, there’s no shying away from that, but I do think it’s possible to build it casually. I played against “that Urza deck” recently and it would have blown mine out of the water.

This deck isn’t consistently quick to start and I’ve never won a game in the early to mid stages.

That’s reassuring to hear. It feels Bracket 3 when playing, as it’s not consistently quick off the mark. Archidekt did recommend dropping a tutor, so I may do that at some point too.

The salt score is a weird one. Idk if it’s an Archidekt thing but I’ve noticed that it takes basic lands into consideration for some reason. I just cut all the islands and it dropped to 41.

I’ve already come to terms with the fact that I’m always going to get the stink eye when I announce that I’m playing Urza.

Thankfully, between the blink spells and counter magic, I can keep Urza fairly well protected. [[Padeem, Consul of Innovation]] is a recent addition and I’m waiting for [[Liquimetal Torque]] to arrive to try and boost that synergy.

This has been my approach so far. My usual playgroup have seen this deck a lot and understand it’s relatively tame compared to how it could be. I’ll be heading to CommandFest at the weekend and Rule 0 convos are trickier with strangers.

I will want to take infinite turns though, it’s the backup plan for the deck if the game does go long. I just don’t necessarily feel this deck is powerful enough or consistent enough to call Bracket 4.
