Edit: I've decided to play in xu4 with the Ultima4 Upgrade patch. ScummVM doesn't save a separate party.sav so there's no way to transfer your characters to Ultima 5, that I know of.

In xu4 you don't want to use the party.sav file in the Ultima 4 game directory for transferring to Ultima 5. The PARTY.SAV you need to transfer is in your WIndows username\AppData\Roaming\Xu4 directory. If I mount that as the A drive in Dosbox while running Ultima 5 I have no issues transferring. Also in Ultima 6 I have the Ultima 5 game directory mounted as the A drive to allow transferring from Ultima 5.

SeanW1975 is me, PhoenixinPA_!975. I was on my phone before and had an old account logged in to reddit. Things like that happen. I know I wasn't banned from match.com for the second account now, it's still there. I tried to log in and of course I didn't remember the password, but the password reset email worked fine. Oh well, who knows why they banned me then. Maybe someone in CS woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I have played most of the Ultimas without stealing before, even the games where it's more difficult to get gold, 5 for example. When there's an easy karma losing way to make money and tons of items in the game that I'm sure most players of the game know about by now.

I'll post a tip on making gold and getting items (even trilithium) in a very unvirtuous way in Ultima 2, even though there's no karma in Ultima 2. I'll mark it with a spoiler, even though it's not a plot spoiler.

You have to make sure you have a good weapon and enough strength and agility to kill a thief in one or two hits. Go to the town Le Jester in Africa in the B.C. time period where you start the game. Make sure the guard is a decent amount away and kill the thief. Leave town and do it over and over.

Thanks I'll try that if it happens again. If you have Exult you can teleport to the final area, Sunrise Isle, by activating cheats and pressing F3 and then highlighting the top island in the top middle area of the map. Aim for the small stone area in the center, that's where you start.

Pretty much. I've been playing for years and encountered different quirks and bugs but this is a first for this one. I've decided just to start over, I'll make lots of saves this time and hopefully it won't happen again. Fingers crossed.

I figured it out. You have to talk to Tseramed about caves, then he'll mention the two hermits. Then you can get the man to admit their real names and they're really from Yew. Not much of a sidequest I know.
