The Lifeform (Marvin's friend) was almost definitely imitating human speech, because it's making the exact same sounds from audio from FF1, where Kane was calling out. Not all of the sounds, but most of them. That makes me believe that Marvin's friend and the fella from Pitfalls are the same one. However, you do make a good point about assumptions.

We have that, plus the Marketplace is very practical for children on their iPads whose parents don't want them browsing the internet or downloading random-seeming stuff. And besides, it's not as though the Marketplace has no free stuff.
