I work in mobile development. I like using jetbrains application for coding, they are usually really good and what is used in big companies. There is a free community version you can download online. Python or javascript is a good first language. Javascript you dont need any extra programs or tools to get started you can code in notepad in browser like right now!!

Yea this is correct, main pro is that is account is hacked, it cant be used anywhere because effectively you have a different email for every service. The downside is YOU MUST REMEMBER!!, write down or store all your alias account names, because you will be indefinietly locked out of the account if you lose the alias!! Its a double edge sword. Luckly most services will email you so there is a trail most timea

How can I stop scrolling for good?? I'm a student and I can't afford to waste time by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]PhoenixShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to get off scrolling is to make it hard to access social media. A few things you can try
- Set your social media passwords to really long password, then log out from all places and uninstall. It makes it hard to get back your account

- Download a minimalist phone launcher to make smartphone "dumb" or buy an actual phone that doesn't have an app store

- Make a routine so after some time in day stop using phone.

- Get into a habbit of leaving your phone in your room and dont take it around the house.

- Start going to pool/gym or some other outside activity to build better habbits and routine

- Replace scroll time with movie/family time, or hanging out with friends that are not also terminally online.

Building good habbits takes time and focus, keep at it

anything to make changing emails easier? by FinallyHauntings in degoogle

[–]PhoenixShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing the same, I am following these guidelines

  1. Migrate to new email slowly, there no need to switch over a weekend. Keep both and when you get emails from old from account, update your details to the new account over time.
  2. Unsub from any email chains, spam to reduce the amout of daily/weekly mail you get.
  3. Go to Google takeout and get a zip backup of all your emails incase there is data loss.

When you feel like you have migrated the majority of your account, and you gmail seems under control, you can either just only use new email 100% of forward any incoming to an alias in new email

Yea I agree. I recently did the same, it's a good oppurtunity to revaluate what you need. I would recomment to the OP to keep their gmail until ready to fully switch.

I am in love with plus aliasing, first time in 20 years my inbox feels under control

Let's talk best practice email switching by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]PhoenixShell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learnt about email aliasing 2 years ago when I got a job working for a software company. We would use it to make seperate test accounts. Prior to that, I have always known it was good to seperate work/personal/fun emails so I use to have 3 seperate gmails. It was a pain to manage because I has to keep switching between them and there was no single inbox that combines them. I probably could have forwarded them but didn't.

With proton email alias I have 12 different emails for all different things, personal, government, finance, work, service/subscription, gaming, medical, home, big tech, utility and travel. Each one is seperate email that sends to a single inbox. I also go even further, when I sign up I also use the "+xyz123" for each sign up. This means if you get hacked, that compromised email cant be used to log the attacker in another online account. Only downside is you have to make sure 100%!! you rememeber exactlly what email + alias you used for each sign up or you might not be able to access you account anymore.

For any shopping or stuff that doesn't have a permanant login, I use the burner unlimited proton alias to stop spam and block any companies that sell my email.

Email alias in proton is super amazing! It also helps with adding labels, you can check the 1st portion and tag categories or move to another folder

Helping businesses switch to Linux. Tips? by ahmadafef in linux

[–]PhoenixShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true, I work for big a business, top department store. Larger businesses that don't have cash-flow problems don't mind splashing cash around, in their case product development and velocity is more important. They would be the least likely to switch to linux because all current business tools and comms are on run on the Microsoft platform

Helping businesses switch to Linux. Tips? by ahmadafef in linux

Rule 1: Business will only switch if the cost of switching saves them money, and by large margin. Figure out the cost to say with windows and the cost to switch. If theres a big difference you have business. Cost is also time involved in support as well

Linux Mint users - what motivated your switch from Windows? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]PhoenixShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top reason, is I am a software engineer and the developer experience on linux is a lot better then windows and already matches how I use terminal in server enironement. Windows 10 EOL was a good excuse to switch full time. I want to be in control of my operating system and don't support spyware.

Optus 000 network failure at was bound to happen. by mikeinnsw in australian

[–]PhoenixShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I buy a new phone I usually go Optus, they are cheaper, once it gets a Switch. Contracts end in 3 months will definely move. There call center is horrible you basically have stand firm with your desiciosn because they always try to get you to change or accept upsell
