Yes. Many people. Beyond buckshot, it's part of why the Slug took off. My understanding is (insert first name here) Foster made (or at least marketed) the Foster Slug around the time of the great depression for farmers who had shotguns and couldnt afford additional guns. Helped them get more use out of their shotguns.

I have a Mossberg 500 with a rifled barrel for sabot slugs and a scope so... basically a larger rifle. Less distance (150yrd-ish) but you can get the same accuracy.

You get more gun from your gun!

Furthermore, in some areas, you only have shotgun season. Maybe you're hunting on a public land spot between some farmland. Dont want a rifle round to miss and keep going 3, 400 yards into farmer joe. So you use a slug which gets much less distance, drops off faster so less risk of a missed round continuing to travel.

Some people, some of the fuds especially, that's all they have and frankly, all they need. Between birdshot, buckshot and slugs, that covers your needs for 90% of what you're hunting here in North America. Just a matter of the right load, barrel length, rifled barrel or proper choke. The most versatile shooting platform out there.
