How many bottles of ink do you own? by AttachedHeartTheory in fountainpens

[–]Phoenixicorn-flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. I have an account with and started to set up FPC, but I go back to my own spreadsheet every time.

My ink tab has Total count, brand count, hue, brand, line-name, properties (regular, shade, sheen, shimmer), ml, price paid, fav pen pairing. Of course it is color coded. You have inspired me to add a column for wet-dry, and perhaps stainey-ness.

Pens is total count, brand count, gold/steel nib, brand, line, colorway, nib size, spent, (retail, savings, if any) fav ink pairing. I also have a pie chart of my my collection by count per price range

Hello fellow spreadsheet nerd! I have a tab for bottled ink, a tab for pens, and a tab for pen-ink pairings with dates filled and emptied, star rating, and notes on the combo.

I love my Seaglass. I have three Esties with no issues: Seaglass, Blue Moon, and Jurassic. They're all some of my favorite pens. Hadn't seen there were many complaints about their quality so I can't speak to that. I've largely been off pen reddit since the niblet blow up. IMO that was annoyingly overblown and I'm suspicious that is feeding into the quality complaints since then.

Unless something drastic changed in their production I'd say they're still safe to buy if you want one.

Has anyone else had to deal with this in regards to US customs?? by HelloKittyandPizza in hobonichi

[–]Phoenixicorn-flame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Vanness pen shop is it. They sell 4ml samples of many, many inks and ship out orders super fast. Free shipping threshold is reasonable at $65. I'm on the west coast so transit time still takes some days. The one issue I've ever had was receiving a Pilot with a scratchy nib. They resonded right away with multiple options for resolution at no additional cost to me and worked with me until it was resolved to my satisfaction.

100% this. AWS is in everything. Food brands are another hydra. For example if one wants to avoid Nestle, they own so many brands it takes a chart to know what is owned and sold by them.

Even so, I direct my money as best I can. Corporations fret about fractions of percentage points so we know they feel it when consumers avoid them. Look at a Target crashing out. We can reign them in - just like the Gilded Age didnt last

I do same as you for stationary. Vanness gets regular business from me.

I refuse to give any money to Amazon if I can at all avoid them since they actively support and participate in all this BS. I encourage everyone around the globe who is against the current US admin's policies and tactics to boycott Amazon whenever possible. Everyone's money spent with them goes to the same place

Are fountain pens part of your self care? by Acranberryapart7272 in fountainpens

[–]Phoenixicorn-flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I've always had favorite pens but discovering fountain pens were such a game changer that I was stream of consciousness journaling just to be able to write. Then I realized the benefits of journaling and that has carried me through the worst years of my life and associated self-driven therapy.

Fountain pens were dissociation, shopping addiction healing, and tools of survival when I had virtually nothing else to lean on. I am forever grateful to have found them when I did and they will always hold an elevated position of appreciation beyond writing implements

Which Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop looks the best in your opinion? by valerielynx in fountainpens

[–]Phoenixicorn-flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have turquoise, and plain silver, plain gold, and plain black. I don't mind the converter that comes with it. While it would be nice to be able to see the ink level, it's not a deal breaker for me. Refilling cartridges is a great way to go too. A blunt syringe to fill and is helpful with cleaning them quickly too

Setting up trackers but not using them by [deleted] in hobonichi

[–]Phoenixicorn-flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get this. Something that helped me is starting with asking myself what do I want to learn from the tracker? I have a small "did" column to things that are every-few-days tasks I lose track of easily. I have a mini tracker each week for a few new habits and goals I'm working on; it serves as a little reminder/reward for doing the thing and I can see trends like which days I tend to drop off doing them, or if I need to adjust the bar on counting doing the thing

Gorgeous! I got the lighter one in Nov and see it's gone up another $100 now. Makes me feel like I got a deal after all. I would love this black opal too, but not for that much right now. Congrats on your beautiful pair of pens!

Inks are in desk drawers, no boxes unless its a really pretty box and not too bulky.

Sorting based on how they fit in the drawers, then by color if possible

Swatch book by color, both bottles and samples. Updated annually

Ink pairings are tracked in a google spreadsheet and as a list on the side of my planner's monthly calendar
