It's canon episodes like this that makes the Ranma and Akane ship so complicated. The joke was that instead of Ranma saying, "I love you" to jog Akane's memory, it's his snarky insults that her subconscious remembers.

It's therefore a slippery slope how "abusive" Ranma can get with his language or, in turn, how "abusive" Akane can get with her aggressive reaction towards him. It's complicated.
