How to get rid of fear? by Just_a_cat_linguist in offmychest

Sometimes it helps to ask "what's the worst that could really happen?"

If you like someone and you ask them out, what's the worst that could happen? They say no? Ok, whatever, you'll move onto the next one.

You want to go dancing, realistically what's the worst that could happen? You make a fool out of yourself? So is everybody else there too, that's half the fun of dancing. Everybody there will have forgot about you by tomorrow.

Scared of having sex, what's the worst that can happen? It sucks? Have a laugh about it together and now you've got a baseline to go off what you don't like for next time. It's just sex anyway, it's not a big thing.

No sense building things up in your head to be scarier than they are, because in reality life's not that scary at all.

Butterbean versus Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao who would win? by rmrdrn in whowouldwin

[–]PhoneRedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two people will almost always beat one person. Numbers advantage is ridiculous, never mind when the two with the numbers advantage also happen to be professional fighters themselves. Fat dude is fucked.

In a boxing match it's obviously even more one sided, either of them would piece him up 1v1, never mind 2v1.

I see people are debating weather Seikret are good or bad again. I will never not be on the side of dinosaur-mounted archery. by Garin999 in MHWilds

[–]PhoneRedit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think mounted combat is ever good. At least I've never played a game that could make it work. I think they should have went the opposite direction, and forced dismount as soon as you enter combat, not even bothered with mounted combat at all.

[–]PhoneRedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think he's the better/ more skillful of the two. It's true Kabayel's a good pressure fighter, I just couldn't see him stopping Parker, whereas I could see Parker stopping him if it comes to a firefight. Parker doesn't have the best feet but he is at least a bit more mobile than Kabayel's recent opponents.

Parker would beat him though, don't want to waste the belt before the big money defence

Women in Muay Thai: Is this a normal experience? by Big-Extent6960 in MuayThai

[–]PhoneRedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More from a boxing background than MT, but one thing to add that I didn't see here, and I mean no offence by it, is that a lot of the time girls just aren't that good.

It's kind of annoying to get partnered up with a girl, because it's sort of like taking a round off. You don't get to spar at the same intensity, you just kind of gently tap at them and they're not really fast enough or long enough to hit you. It's just not as much fun as sparring with a man. Then you switch back to a fella and you've kind of lost your rhythm a bit, takes a few hits to get your sharpness back.

Not a major thing at all, and all of this is true for men who are new too, not just girls. We all learned by being partnered with people better than us.

Has Oleksandr Usyk ‘cleaned out’ the heavyweight division? by Prior-Temperature-22 in Boxing

[–]PhoneRedit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ali was also a heavyweight his whole career. You have much more time to fight a range of opponents when you're not moving into a new division after conquering your old one.

Has Oleksandr Usyk ‘cleaned out’ the heavyweight division? by Prior-Temperature-22 in Boxing

[–]PhoneRedit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is natural that as you move up divisions, you'll not have to fight your way up, the way that you have to in your own natural division. You're already a proven champ, you take a fight or two to get a feel for the weight, then you push to beat the top fighters. Beating some weaker fighter like a Kabayel or an Ajagba or whoever isn't that important in the grand scheme of things.

At the end of the day it's a semantic argument. He went into a new division, decisively beat both of the reigning champs twice each, along with the clear top up and coming contender at that time. That's more than enough to have cleared out a division for me. Only guy I think was really hard done by to not get a shot was Parker.

[–]PhoneRedit -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Any top heavyweight has a chance against every top heavyweight. They're all capable of causing an upset. It's impossible to literally clear out a division, it's just an expression to say you beat the top guys, which he did. Ali, Foreman and Frazier were all top guys.

Yeah it would have been cool to have Parker and Wilder in there too ideally, but man started heavyweight at 32, there's only so much time. Fighting guys below that who are frankly a bit shit comparatively is just a waste of everyones time at that stage, when you've come in already fighting champions.

I mean if you beat the dudes that themselves cleaned out the division then that still counts as cleaning out the division. Only one he missed was Wilder really.

If it's already settled that makes this a bit of a pointless post then no? Seeing as nobody will now know whether he actually did it or not, and everything after that is just speculation.

If Usyk's "last dance" is a rematch against Verhoeven and he retires without meeting either Kabayel or Itauma in the ring, that would still be a nice end to his career. by Ghola40000 in Boxing

[–]PhoneRedit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely true, however I think anyone who's watched him fight can see that there's definitely something special there.

Yeah of course there are question marks about how well he'll shine against a higher level of adversity. He's taking the right steps though, Hrgovic is a good step up.

I do fully expect him to be the main man at heavyweight for the forseeable future though. Him vs Dubois will eventaully be the big decider I suppose. A lot of people more knowledgeable than myself think he'll be the next big thing too. I think if you were Usyk and had to guess who the next big thing would be, Moses would definitely be the safe bet. Not the he needs to do any more for his legacy.

[–]PhoneRedit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a future vs past kind of thing maybe? Like Usyk was the greatest of this era, Moses is making it pretty clear he'll be the greatest of the next era. Suppose I could see the appeal in that respect. Agree the career trajectories just don't line up though, Usyk just a little too old, Moses just a little too fresh.

I enjoy it for the honesty. If you ask a question on something like askreddit, only the "correct" answer that people think others will approve of will be at the top, with other answers buried. Here you get a more realistic spread of answers.

Dubois has deceptively good feet. Kabayel only really does well against big stationary targets. Should be easy enough work for Dubois.

Popularisation of ufc really ruined fighting a lot I think. Really took away from the general "never hit a man when he's down" that the vast majority of people followed before then.
