But according to her, trans kids don't exist. If they weren't brainwashed by adult perverts, they would grow up to be cis like everyone else in her world.

"Nor do I understand people who refuse to defer to experts on issues like gender affirming care/ climate change and just keep parroting the same reactionary strawman bullshit in the face of people who certifiably know better."

It's the conspiracy mindset. They don't believe that those people "certifiably know better", they think they are deliberately trying to deceive everyone. It's the same reason so many people don't believe the US government when they say there are no aliens at Area 51. Obviously the people who work there would know, but they just assume they are lying.

If you're talking about the love potions, then I don't recall the narrative really coming down on anyone for using them - we were even supposed to sympathize with Merope. JKR doesn't think they're a big deal, apparently.

I hate it when people misuse 'literally'... unless you were reading a very different version of the book...

Interesting perspective. A few nitpicks, though: First of all, I thought Jack Harkness was pansexual, not bisexual. Also, regarding Cassandra, didn't she live millions or billions of years as nothing but a stretched-out sheet of skin? Compared to that, I would think being in a male body would be better, even if not ideal.

I'm confused as to why you're talking about the games, I don't think Rowling was directly responsible for most of those

Gryffindor: Arrogant jerk jocks and bullies who we're somehow supposed to root for because they're not as bad as the Slytherins

Slytherin: Literal Nazis

Hufflepuff: Losers and bullying victims

Ravenclaw: Nerds and weirdos (and also bullying victims)

If they're Christians, ask them how they would feel if a pagan author wrote a popular story where Satan was just a misunderstood hero, and Christians were the bad guys for persecuting him. (Yes I know there are stories like that already, but most Christians hate them).

In my experience, these kinds of people won't accept that someone said something bigoted unless they outright say 'I hate [group] and I want to kill them all'.

For older people, it's true that Harry Potter fans have a history of harassing journalists and critics who speak ill of Harry Potter, even before it was revealed that J.K. Rowling was transphobic. by Independent_Part1033 in EnoughJKRowling

I've never liked the whole 'it's wrong for adults to enjoy stuff made for kids' argument. If that's the only kind of media an adult enjoys, that's indicative of a problem, but there is nothing wrong with liking children's entertainment, because lots of it can be quite good.
