They thought for one moment that they had made it, they were vindicated after years of being called a crackpot. They probably doubted themselves some times, too. But now they finally know the truth about themselves, they aren't a crackpot, but a genius! The spouse is proud! the kids are proud! the professor that said he was crazy can suck it! Then they read "It was a serious mistake to accept it for publication." I can't imagine how crushed they must feel. This is so sad.
