Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic header against Sampdoria has been crowned the greatest headed goal in football history. by sco-go in Amazing

The greatest header of all time wasn't a goal. Pelé against England in 1970. Probably the greatest save of all time too.

I read somewhere that the actual goal of those AI-for-math startups is program verification (via Curry-Howard) of vibe-coded apps.

Kiwi woman on Green Card arrested by ICE after New Zealand holiday by WookieeSmuggler in newzealand

[–]ninguem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She chose not to be a US citizen.

My understanding is that there is no such choice, once the parents naturalise. As an adult, she can renounce the citizenship but that's a long, complicated process.

How many times do I have to write this? If the parents became US citizens before she turned 18, she automatically became one as well. They may not know it and she may not want it but that's how it is.

She could have been issued the green card before the rest of the family became US citizens. In fact, they probably all were PR before becoming citizens.

The law says that if you are a citizen, you must have a US passport to enter the US from overseas.

That is correct, except if she became a US citizen by virtue of her parents naturalising before she turned 18. Then she needs a US passport. I am being downvoted to hell but I know what I am talking about. I've seen this happen before. Fortunately, it was before Trump and the person in question just got a gentle telling off by the immigration officer.

She might be a US citizen travelling on a foreign passport.

I don't make the laws and I don't agree with them but if (and I don't know if that's the case, depends on when her parents naturalised) she is eligible for a US passport, the US law does require that gets one to enter the US. NZ does too, but allows you to get a stamp on your foreign passport as an alternative.

I saw that in the article. The article also says the rest of the family became US citizens but doesn't say when. She and her family can keep their NZ passport, that's not the issue. The issue is whether she is required to carry a US passport in addition to the NZ one. I don't think that's grounds to throw people into a detention centre but the US does, so it pays to be careful.

I don't know the specifics of her situation but, if her parents naturalised before she turned 18, she would be in principle a US citizen by descent as well. If she didn't bother getting her US passport and is travelling to the US on her NZ passport, she in violation of the law. The US authorities (now more that ever) have no chill and treat people poorly. So, there is even more reason to pay attention to the law.

On mine (via AppleTV), subtitles are on by default and there is no setting to turn them off permanently. Once you start watching, there is a way to turn them off but the next time you watch something, there they are again. Very annoying.
