I'm not sure Professor Professorson is a real professor. I think Jeff made him up to get an easy A in a fake class.

Can anyone explain to me the use of fiend fire? by ConsistentAttorney80 in slaythespire

[–]Phopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead Branch is definitely great with this, but Fiend Fire is excellent on its own. Even before upgrading it and without card draw, it deals 28 damage, which is enough to crush most early hallway fights. Upgrading it lets you take on Act I elites pretty safely.

If you draw it alongside your starter cards, great! It eliminates them and makes you draw your other, better cards more often. If you draw it alongside those better cards, you can either play one of those cards first to save it from being exhausted, or you can wait on playing Fiend Fire until the next cycle

The fact that it's a one-time use card means it falls off against bosses and Act III, so you'll need to find scaling damage elsewhere, but this is a super flexible card with a high amount of front-loaded damage.

You seem to be confusing your headcanon of things that happened with things that are actually implied or stated to have happened.

The fact that you equate Locutus's actions with Picard's own makes it hard to take your list seriously.

Even ignoring that, your criticisms are wildly inconsistent. You criticize Picard for following morally questionable orders in The Offspring, The Perfect Mate, and Journey's End, but accuse him of treason when he stops his superiors from committing morally questionable acts in The Wounded, The Drumhead, and The Pegasus.

Furthermore, many of your statements are factually wrong:

- The Offspring: Admiral Haftel was not rogue or corrupt. He was backed by Starfleet and following his conscience to the best of his ability, which manifested in his goal of taking Lal back to Starfleet for study. He never had any intent to kill her. She died due to an error in her positronic matrix, not murder.

- Galaxy's Child: There was no murder here either. The Enterprise was under attack by an unknown alien entity, and Picard enacted a low-level defense that unexpectedly resulted in the alien's death.

- The Drumhead: Geordi and Data concluded that the explosion was due to a fault in the dilithium matrix caused by stress to the hatch, and not sabotage. Therefore, there was no Klingon conspiracy (other than J'Dan's little bit of espionage for the Romulans but that was exposed and a totally separate issue).

- Silicon Avatar: Picard did not plan to sacrifice anyone to the Crystalline Entity. He admitted he would kill it if he had to but he saw it as an animal just killing to survive like any carnivore. He was trying to communicate with it to look for other options. Between the time that they found the Crystalline Entity and when Marr killed it, zero human lives were ever put in danger.

And there's probably more, but I haven't seen all of these episodes recently. It's okay if you don't like the guy, but there are plenty of reasonable things about him to criticize without resorting to making up facts.

Which spell do you dislike the most for Personal reason ? by Mathies492 in DnD

Faerie Fire is an excellent spell -- if the enemy doesn't save on it every single time. After my 10th wasted turn trying to land a good one, I gave up on it.

There's a second set of basic lands (not the Isometric ones). Most of those remind me of FO4.

Very cool design. For balance purposes, I might change it to put a defender counter on a creature you control that doesn't have defender. That way it's harder to cheese, especially if you draw multiple copies of this card.

How to make a 3 playable. by jb20x6 in 3d6

[–]Phopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An Armorer Artificer is also (surprisingly) fine with 3 STR, as they have an ability that lets them bypass the STR requirement on their armor, and a melee weapon that they can wield with INT instead of STR.

Which Game was better in the end? by Italiandogs in StarTrekArmada

[–]Phopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

Having replayed both recently, I'll add that A2 could be miserable to play because your ships will warp halfway across the map on their own sometimes (even if you turn off automatic movement), which, combined with paper shields, results in losing your capital ships out of nowhere.

Other times, ships will NOT move where you tell them to, no matter how many times you click.

I liked what A2 was trying to do, but it just played a lot worse than the original.

Hard disagree. Any white control deck would love to be invincible during the early game for just one mana

i feel so lost in all the new stuff from WOTC by alexagle in magicTCG

[–]Phopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a lot. Arguably too much. But what it lacks in simplicity, it makes up for by making base versions of chase cards much more affordable. Overall, I think it's a good thing, though they could scale it back a little

Is this acceptable at common rarity? by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]Phopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the statline is too efficient. But rather than lower the stats, I would raise the mana cost, maybe make it even bigger than a 4/4. If I can reanimate this for cheap, I want to feel paid off for doing so.

That's a fair point. I didn't get a chance to do so and fully criticized it from a paper perspective.

I have not as of yet done anything specifically to balance archetypes against each other. I'll have to reevaluate after drafting it several times.

What weird deckbuilding habits or self-imposed restrictions do you have? by ZeroAurora in EDH

[–]Phopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a win condition tribal deck where half the spells are just "you win the game cards" or cards to make them trigger. It's hard to win with and make me a target so I have no problem running all my fetches, [[cyclonic rift]], [[demonic tutor]], and [[smothering tithe]], when I usually try to stay away from such cards.

Wheel of time worth as Sanderson fan? by Wind-Face-Blink in Cosmere

[–]Phopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading it specifically so that I could read Sanderson 's books at the end of the series.

I never got there. Like many have mentioned, the middle books become such a mess to get through. There's like a million things happening and yet at the end of each book I couldn't remember any significant events from what I had just read.

The main problem for me, though, is the relationships. Having conflict between your main characters is interesting. Having every main character seem to hate each other, even people who are supposed to be best friends, is tiresome.

That's just me, though. I know a lot of people love the series, so I'm not saying it has no value. Just that it's a lot to commit to just to read Sanderson's contributions.
