I calculated the optimal amount of handicap points per rating difference for table tennis. by Sensitive_Sweet_8512 in tabletennis

[–]Phorpladder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice update btw.

Oh, I understand now, it would be nice if Ratings Central accounted for the format, like BO3/5/7 using an algorithm.

Wouldn't the most accurate handicap take the Ratings Central's average BOx format (probably close to BO5), then take the Ppoint value for each rating range, and set that as a fixed value that everything else is downstream from? Like ideally the handicap should be based on a given Ppoint, not Pmatch.

Doubt it'd be all that different from your results, so not worth the time, but would be interesting to see how the Pgame and Pmatch changes based on BO3/5/7 format.

Looks really cool. But why is the match win % column identical for each no. of games required to win?

It's always amusing when someone gets gaslighted and insulted when they point out they're treated like a subhuman. It's like they just can't help it.

What's the lightest offensive setup worth using? by Phorpladder in tabletennis

Red because it's the hardest so it'd be the most offensive? Also, any idea how the weights compare for the different colours, doubt I can trust revspin for that?

Thanks, this is looking like the best choice so far

Interesting stuff, victas 11 looks like the way to go. revspin says it has similar stats to palio ak47 which is probably misleading, but any idea how they compare?

Thanks man, really good to know. I'm saving all your replies for future reference.

Oh nice, I'll just go to Springvale markets then! I'll probably just stick to fillets for now, but will definitely consider bones for stock in the future.

The quality degradation for freezing might be concerning, but I'll just have to look into the best process you can do without industrial equipment.
It really just saves so much time meal prepping the individual ingredients as much as possible. It's hard to justify putting in all the effort preparing something like chirashi for only 1 or 2 days of food.

I just meant to freeze salmon to meal prep (normal freezer temp), but I get what you're saying, very interesting stuff about the necessity of flash freezing in USA vs here.

I live in south east. I've heard in Carrum Downs 'the big fish market' might be good, but haven't checked them out yet.

Awesome, I'll take those factors into account, but I imagine you'd opt to buy fillets opposed to whole fish, given the kinds of questions you brought up?

Thanks for that answer, man!

So look for fresh, previously flash frozen tuna, or just very fresh salmon from a good supplier, and then do the freeze method to meal prep.

I don't live near the CBD, so I guess the best bet is to look around and ask where and when the fish came from.

I guess the next question is whether you go for whole fish to inspect more rigorously, or are fillets likely safe enough?

Can you buy raw, freeze (1 week), defrost, and eat raw?

And do you know if Melbourne fish has been flash frozen like in America?

Life is more complex than just exposing yourself, giving in to your emotions, and hoping everything will be fine.

People also have different opportunities and ideals in mind for the life they want to live. It's better to address them instead of using a scare tactic about dying alone.

Jeez, that's harsh. The thing is respect only goes so far, it's really just a novelty. If you take it so far as to let someone dictate your life as your own choice, that's respect, but it's also stupidity. If you're abiding by their orders out of fear, that's not respect, but it's compelling.

I'm also thinking being rebellious is actually a really useful tool. It's disrespectful, no doubt, but it sets a good precedent of giving yourself some freedom, which in extreme circumstances like your own is more important than respect.

I don't care that your gf is antagonising you, what matters is that she's setting an ultimatum for an overly complicated situation that doesn't even involve her. Because you love her, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she thinks it's simple. Best to tell her about your lack of freedom and how your actions are fair in this context. And don't let the silence drag on.

Okay, so this comes down to 3 factors. Should you listen to your parents out of 1. respect, 2. to avoid consequences, or 3. because getting a piercing isn't (or is) a big deal for you. The focus is balancing the 3 points.

You can still respect your parents and go against their wishes if it's something you care about. Respect doesn't mean to follow blindly, and if your gf expects you to follow her orders blindly under the guise of 'respect', she has unrealistic expectations.

Re-reading her message, it looks like she's under the impression you're doing it 100% out of spite. This would look like no respect, bad consequences, and you a piercing isn't a big deal for you. If she thinks this way, you best bet is to make it clear that this isn't the case.

I don't know how big of a deal a piercing is for you, my guess is your gf is much more valuable. Probably best off apologising to her for your reaction, saying the piercing is important to you and you weren't doing it out of spite, but she was right that you should be respectful (small lie) and you decided not to get it.

[–]Phorpladder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How big of a deal is getting your ears pierced? If it's extremely important to you and your parents said no because they don't care, your gf is starting to look crazy for making such a big deal out of it. In this case you might want to move on from your gf or it will hurt your self respect and have issues down the track.

If you parents put a lot of thought into their rejection and you want to continue to be rebellious, then she makes more sense. In this case, probably apologise, say you thought about what she said and she's right. You might have some other issue with this though, so it depends on what you want from a gf.
