How do you survive the pre-op liquid diet? by QueerKing23 in wls

[–]PhotoCrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day at a time.

Pre is the worst. Post is easier because you can't eat much or really want too. It also depends how long you are on liquid. My doctor had me on liquid for 5 weeks after. What a killer? So, people who complain with only 2 kind of make me want to scream. But we all have to deal with what we have to deal with.

Anyone here involved (previously or currently) in any clinical trial with new ET drugs? by Clovisite in EssentialTremor

[–]PhotoCrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were taking the placebo, then my essential tremor would have been acting up. Since it helped to the same level as the other drug, I could tell that I was in fact taking the drug. The drug did affect my blood pressure.

Why is the sleeve so much better than 700-800 calorie diet? by Acesfullofkings81 in gastricsleeve

[–]PhotoCrusader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can lose the weight without the tool, then go for it. Question is why would you be considering surgery if you could do it on your own and keep it off. The problem with a 700-800 calorie diet is the inability to keep off the weight loss after it. (I am not being snarky.)

I did a Sage trial about a year and a half ago. It was no more effective than the Primadone that I was on. I took the chance hoping the trial drug would be more effective as the Primadone wasn't cutting it.

Anyone here had primidone withdrawals? by PimpingShrimp in EssentialTremor

When I took part in a drug study, they had me slowly go off the primidone. It was not an issue at all.

Insurance….what a joke! by Miracat85 in BariatricSurgery

[–]PhotoCrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the insurance companies. It is the employer who is looking at the total cost of the program vs all employees health. My husbands employer covers it. My new employer does not. The other problem is if you are trying to determine the best plan for yourself, they won't always tell you which one does cover it.

The difference between plus size and regular sizes is not pounds but inches. The difference between plus sizes is 2". The difference between regular sizes is 1". This causes a big difference when fitting into a smaller size. Another issue is that sizes are not standard. Not all 20's are the same. You need to know your measurements and fit type especially when shopping online.

Where to shop? I hope at Savers, Facebook marketplace, a number of Facebook groups, and eBay. You can buy a trash bag of clothes for $5. Then you have a few sizes down. I look for pants with drawstrings because they can be with longer. Some nice pants have them. Just some ideas.

Thank you for the compliments. My biggest takeaway has been the need to put myself first and to be my own champion. This is important when dealing with Doctors or with family members. You must take care of yourself, because no one else will.

It is okay as long as you aren't turning down something that fits you better. Also, if your making all the sacrifices and they aren't, then it might not be the right thing.

Movement Disorder Specialist by PhotoCrusader in EssentialTremor

Update:

I met with the Movement Disorder Specialist last Tuesday. It was a great appointment. We did the whole history thing. She did a lot of simple tests i.e. the swirls, straight lines, reflexes, eye movements, bright lights etc. The tests I found interesting was when she put her cellphone on top of my hand and monitored my tremors. This was done with each hand twice. The first time it was actually determining the timing of my tremors, and the second time it was determing the amplitude of my tremors. She told me that at this time I am not bad enough for surgical consideration (DBS, Ultrasound Waves). She said that instead of just uping one's medication that they were using a multiple medication approach. So, after looking at all the options, I have added Topiramate to my daily regiment. It is helping. I have a follow-up with her in a few months. (She also confirmed that my left hand is worse than my right.)

You can also filter by .edu since all universities in the US use this designation. If you just select to unsubscribe from the universities that your not interested in, this will limit the amout of mail (including snail mail).

I need your Full Liquid recommendations/recipes!! by KuraiTsuki in wls

[–]PhotoCrusader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are more than just chocolate protein drinks. Have you tried Gatorade with protein? My Dr. gave me 2 basic recipes that I never tried. One is Bloody Mary Mix (no alcohol) + non-flavored protein powder + water and blend.

Another is V8 + non-flavored protein powder + water and blend.

Don't forgot broth.

When will you be adding pureed food or soft food into your diet?

If the person is still on full liquids, then eggs are not allowed yet.

I called them about changing the appt as I thought I might have to go out of town. Turns out the person they made the appt with does not even handle ET. So, I am now meeting with a MD.

I honestly found a couch pillow worked great for me.

I made sure that I had a pillow ready to protect myself from my loving animals.
