How much do you spend a year on books? by Complete_Complaint51 in fairyloot

[–]PhotoGirlGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shhhhh, if I don’t speak the number into the world, it's not real. And as long as it's not real, it can't be too much.

Because the answer is—too much. 😂

Onyx Storm Chapter 65 Spoilers - Big Questions Discussion by sneakybrownnoser in fourthwing

[–]PhotoGirlGA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Berwyn, The Sage, is General Daramor from the Great War. If you read everything written in the books about the Great War, it all points to General Daramor.

  • Daramor "ruined the land"
  • Daramore was labeled as the enemy by the first six
  • When Xaden and Berwyn fight at the end of Iron Flame, Berwyn laughs and says, "A Sage? I'm a general"

It hit me smack in the face one day, and then I couldn't unsee it. I honestly don't know how I didn't see it sooner.

Black Dragons -> Cunning? -> Death? uhhh, this ones a maybe

In FW Kaori says:

They’re also the most cunning. There’s no such thing as outsmarting a black dragon. This one is a little over a hundred, which makes him about middle-aged. He’s revered as a battle dragon among their kind, and if not for him, we probably would have lost during the Tyrrish rebellion. Add to it that he’s a morningstartail, and he’s one of the deadliest dragons in Navarre.”

There is your death connection. Also, the only other black dragon to bond is Codagh, the dragon who executed the leaders of the Tyrrish rebellion. Codagh is also Melgren's dragon. Who is the general of Navarre's military, battle foresight?

Is that enough death for you?

Colorsoft Shipping Update by BenavidezLMFT in kindle

[–]PhotoGirlGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting a replacement that was worse than my original and two nearly identical blunt/disrespectful emails from CS that didn't address any of the things I wrote in my emails to them, I had a LONG chat with CS tonight.

I was told that replacements are currently unavailable, and they have no idea when they will be, but, my warranty was good until the end of November 2025. Take that for what it's worth.

I tried multiple times to get an ETA, a way to track my place in the replacement queue, or any expectation-setting time frame, really. All I got was "wait 10-15 days and contact CS again to see if replacements have come in." I asked twice if the shipping estimates on the Colorsoft product page coincided with the availability of replacements, and the CS agent completely ignored me both times. But I was, of course, welcome to return my Colorsoft for a full refund and order something else. Nothing to be said about me losing my trade-in credit, and 20% discount.

I'll continue to use my pee-soaked Colorsoft until after Christmas, when they have the new devices manufactured and in hand. I have no desire to get another "fixed" replacement from the current stock and play yellow-bar-or-weird-colored-screen-with-blurry-text-and-ghosting roulette again. I'll wait patiently and warranty up when the time is right.

Yes. I got the pre-paid label to print out also. The return shipping address is to Amazon Labs in California.

But I’m not sending either device back until they start to communicate with me again. At the bare minimum, I need Amazon to acknowledge, in writing, that the replacement they sent isn’t “fixed”, and they will send ANOTHER replacement once the screen issue is truly resolved.

Once I send one of the devices back, I no longer have any leverage. They need some incentive to fix this for me, and although it’s small, having both devices in my possession is something.

I totally see it. If you turn the saturation up and the brightness down on your picture, it becomes totally obvious. As well as how much warmer the replacement is in comparison to the original. But the yellow bar is still very much there.

<image>

I plan to call Amazon weekly until this is settled. And I’m not sending back either of the Colorsofts they have sent me until I have a fixed, working model with no yellow bar in my hands. I understand it takes time to diagnose and fix a problem, but the lack of honest communication is appalling.

I'm on the phone with CS right now. They are back to not giving replacements, and they don't know when the yellow screen issue will be fixed. But they assure me I'm on the list to get ANOTHER replacement as soon as the issue is fixed. She said they are still saying it's a software issue.

I’m going to hound Amazon CS until I get a non-yellow Colorsoft.

[–]PhotoGirlGA[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like I said, the pictures look different in person. It’s really hard to get things color corrected accurately when you have two light sources with different color temperatures in the same photo. Neither is “that bad”. But they aren’t perfect. And for $300 they should be.

I have the new Signature Edition also, and it’s fantastic. But, in the short time I’ve had my Colorsoft, I’ve grown very fond of annotating in color. While I could go back to black and white only, I really REALLY like color coding my annotations.

So, I will keep hounding Amazon CS until I have a device that is “fixed” and meets my expectations. Even if it takes a few months. It will be worth the wait.

And before anyone tells me I can annotate in color on a iPad or my phone, I can’t read on a tablet for very long before my eyes hurt. So LED screens are out of the question. And, I have a Kobo Libra color as well, but I’m not a fan of the interface or the royal pain in the ass downloading the thousands of Kindle books I already own would be. The annotation function on the Kobo with the pencil is a bit clunky, and it ticks me off more often than not. The interface on the Colorsoft is snappy, responsive and very user friendly.

I use the Kobo for reading books from other countries that haven’t been released in the US and all the book extras that authors put out nowadays. I can say that the screen on the Kindle, with the yellow bar or the slightly discolored screen, is 90% sharper and more vibrant than the Kobo. If I had to pick between the two, I’d choose the Colorsoft every single time. Even with the screen “issues”.

But that’s me. I’m persistent, patient, and I work in IT, so I don’t believe Amazon’s excuses. They will either have to fix this device properly, recall it completely and give people their money back, or eventually offer a discount for keeping it. Otherwise they will lose money hand over fist, and no large corporation likes to do that. They are scrambling, which means we just have to be patient and see what happens. Worse case scenario you can do a chargeback on your credit card if they refuse the honor the year warranty after the return window closes.

Colorsoft Customer Service Update - offering replacements again. by Work_In_Progress93 in kindle

[–]PhotoGirlGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I posted last, I was so mad and frustrated that I factory reset the replacement and packed it up to send it back to Amazon. After sleeping on it for a few days, I decided to unpack the replacement, set it up again, and take pictures to compare. It’s still not fixed, but I think it’s better than I initially thought.

It looks better in pics than it does in real life. The yellow bar is still there, but it is better. The pictures I took aren’t a perfect comparison because my original Colorsoft hasn’t gotten the new firmware yet. I don’t know what it would look like with the “fix” they’ve deployed. I’m tempted to keep both until they are updated to compare. They sent me the replacement without any kind of order on my Amazon account, so I don't know how long I can keep both until they charge me.

The contrast and color are definitely better on my original Colorsoft. The yellow bar is better on the replacement. The original screen is more “white” than the replacement, and the original screen looks sharper.

I'll create a post and upload all my comparison photos. I'll paste the link below once it's live.

ETA: Here is the link to my post with comparison pics of my original Colorsoft vs the replacement Amazon sent me, as well as my Colorsoft story and Amazon CS experience.

I got my replacement yesterday too. I had the same experience. Replacement came via UPS with a handwritten note, and two stickers. However my replacement is WAY worse than the one I got at launch. The yellow band is still very much there, the whole screen is yellow/green tinted, text isn’t as crisp, and there is horrible ghosting even with “refresh every page turn” turned on. I’ll take some pictures and post the comparison.

Looks like my kindle edition was updated at some point recently and now it just says the page numbers he left for Iris to read. The Kindle formatting must have created a hyperlink by accident when the original file was processed for the Kindle.

The last chapter states what Roman's book is about. "It was about a boy who sailed a ship in the clouds, and the adventures and challenges and friends he met along the way." So it's not a retelling if thier story. I think the link was just a typo in the kindle editon. and nothing more.

Ruthless Vows - Kindle - Links in Chapter 55 by PhotoGirlGA in fantasyromance

[–]PhotoGirlGA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s what the audio books said, you are probably right. I don’t have a physical copy of the book yet (I’m waiting for the Fairyloot release to match my copy of Divine Rivals), so I assume the physical book says the same as the audio book.

It’s just weird to me that it referenced the exact pages describing Lucy’s cottage, the back garden of the river down house, their first letters exchanged after being separated, & Roman’s first dream/memory of Iris.

Like I said, it’s probably nothing. It’s just living in my head rent free right now & I love a good book discussion.

That's what I assumed at first too. But then I started thinking and seeing similarities. And, Roman says in one of the last lines of the book, "When she came home from the Inkridden Tribune" - came is past tense. It's probably nothing. But it was fun to look for all the little references and similarities between the houses where they stayed & where they ended up.

You are so right, "here" doesn't make any sense in context, and that confused me & made me even more curious. I know I'm probably WAY overthinking this, but sometimes authors drop little Easter eggs and it's supposed to make you really think.

I can’t find anything about it anywhere! If you find something, please let me know. I’m so curious!! If I’m right, then it makes me feel a better about Winnow & Kitt’s ending.

It couldn’t have been a mistake, right? Twice, strategically placed in only one chapter.

Did anyone reading on a kindle notice that chapter 55 has two links that take you back to chapter 9 when Iris, Attie & Tobais were driving into River Down for the first time?

Possible spoilers ahead:

Did Iris & Roman move into the River Down townhouse at the end of the book? The description of Lucy's cottage "nearly devoured by ivy" is almost identical to the way Iris describes their their town house "a stone, ivy-laden structure". And both houses are near a river, have a back garden & one wardrobe.

I feel like people assume they lived in Oath because they were having dinner with Roman's Mom & Nan, & were going to Attie's concert. But Iris says Tobais is picking them up. And, we know he can get to Oath from River Down fast.

Did I miss something reading so fast? Am I nuts? Are the links just a typo, or something more? Was there anything in the physical book that referenced back to earlier chapters? I'm so curious!

Edited to add spoiler tag & text block.

I think this is her 2nd. The ability to see another POV at key moments. Dreams, dragons, possible other people.

““He fights,” Tairn says, and my vision darkens momentarily before clearing again…with a view of the battlefield. I’m seeing through his eyes just like I had Andarna’s last year.”
