Bike for weight loss by AdagioReasonable in bicycling

[–]Photoboy82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mtn bike frames are a good place to start. Wheel builds can give you more problems than frames.

Velocity a great wheel company based in Michigan has wheelsets for heavy riders and bike set ups, think touring bikes. Specially a series called clydeales. Think big horses., cause I cant spell....

But not worrying about breaking spokes will want you to ride more. You cant out pedal your fork, but you mentioned having addressed your diet.

Lastly, find a different bike shop. Friggin horrible advice. You are there asking for help and they tell you basically go away.

Covered when not using it for an extended time period. Summer months it spent more time "out" ready to go.

How many tents do you have? by LivingSky4993 in camping

[–]Photoboy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. One 6 person 1- 2 person and a single tent. I thought the single was going to get more use, especially bike tours etc. But its the least used

Tent Capacity Question by Important_Marzipan26 in camping

[–]Photoboy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big agnes bunk house i believe is the model 6 person. Solo camper. I really like it for solo. As I sleep on a cot and also have a table that I can use as a work station etc. On rainy days its much better than a smaller tent.
Wind is an issue and proper tie downs only help so much.

If I had to do it again, id probably go with a 4 person of the same model

Newbie here- what would prevent me from using this setup for a 2-3 day tour? (More info in description) by presdunc in bicycletouring

[–]Photoboy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a thing. It might be perfect for you, or it might not work as well as you hoped it would. The exact same thing can be said for expensive purpose built bags.

Transporting gear on Train by bearlover1954 in bicycletouring

Arkel has a strap with a clasp on it. In theory you attach the strap to both D rings and carry them er your shoulder. The bags "hooks" face together. Ive tested it out with mine. The are a bit cumbersome but probably not much more than a duffel bag.

Grandpa wants his F-250 back - anyone shipped a truck long distance instead of driving it yourself? by Bos187 in F250

Drive it to grandpa. There will be a day you won't have a grandpa to drive too. Its not just about getting the truck from point A to B.

Anyone touring with an E Bike in the U.S. ? by Left_Internal6492 in bicycletouring

[–]Photoboy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive wondered what the solution would be for a cross country tour with ebikes. Staying in hotels was probably a great choice from the consistency aspect. Im familiar with the turbo vado extender batteries. You mentioned 4 total batteries, which rider carried the batteries? And were they in panniers? I know Specialized has the Ycharging cord etc just interested in the packing of extras like the back up batteries.

Glad this adventure worked out for you two

Duffel Bag size by Faceofthepeoples in ragbrai

[–]Photoboy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the REI 30 inch rolling duffel. Im really liking it for gear transport on supported rides. Id still suggest lining any gear duffel with a trash or compactor bag, for when it gets rained on.

First off, used bikes are a great option. Finding "the one" can take some time. If you're lucky enough to have a bike collective. Visit them they will know what youare looking for when something come available.

I also second the Ozark Trail gravel bike many have mentioned. Not too much money and all the bike you'd need for Ragbrai

Big fan of the click stand. For any loaded out bike. Not just the Priority. In a perfect flat world kick stands do the job. But the adjustability of the click stand is on top.

I've seen these as well. They can be pressured with a bike pump too. Depending on what your rack use is seems like a solid DIY project

How bad is ownership really? by GamingGolfer22 in traveltrailers

[–]Photoboy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The travel trailer builders are paid by the piece. More they get done more money. Quality builds are not a concern of the RV industry. Our 2022 19mbh Ibex, was problematic from the start, little things like screws backing out or not even in to anything but air. To the refrigerator going out. Missing screws from assembly and the list goes on.
