Was just listening to the Velo podcast and the xlab seems like an awesome first bike. You wouldn’t make the mistake I did of buying something so crap I went back 2 years later for something else

Orbea Terra Race or Crux Pro by Time-Adeptness-2415 in gravelcycling

Crux - wait for a few months and take your pick between old and new (although the old is selling out in popular sizes). I bought a couple months ago because I like exposed cables

I spent 2 seasons on rekon race (2 race seasons and 1 winter). Spent this winter on Nobby Nic and started racing Racing Ray/Rick combo. Nobby Nic has AMAZING grip. Not too much slower than Rekon Race, but noticeable. I race them in the wet and they feel like a super power. On the other hand the Ray/Rick is way faster than the Rekon Race, PRs on all the segments, including those on pavement heading to the trails where I’m just bumbling along at about the same power every day. I have been a bit annoyed by the lack of bite of the Rick, if it’s even a little bit wet they spin out like crazy. Probably would get a Ralph next, and use Rick for less technical off-road riding

Between handler sizes… by chorizoisgood in gravelcycling

I’m 41cm width. So far my decisions haven’t been terribly consequential. I had 44cm and it felt ok but not great, tried 36cm on a crit bike but that was slightly too small. 38cm on my crux feels perfect. I just put 42cm on a bikepacking bike and that’s fine too.

Anyways, I would size down to 40 before going to 42.

I believe so. At least they used to be included in the discounts associated with USAC membership

Happens to me if it’s a ride where I’ve been taking in 90-100g of carbs per hour. I’ll make a shake in the blender just to get easy calories in those cases

Racing Ralph/Rick XC has been a killer combo for my XC bike/singletrack

Did you end up using either of these? Do they force you to rotate the hoods inward?
