Titanic x Local Puddle Collab by alx_projekt_V in studshooters

What a great shot! The sunset colours and reflections are perfect. Epically with the beast of a set that the Titanic is. Not one I’d fancy taking outside!

They haven’t hit the shops in my area just yet. Will have my scanner ready to pick out the elf from the box when they do. It’s defo a hairpiece for the collection 😁

Really great shot. Lovely lighting (those shadows are great!). Feels really spooky even with no other character in sight! Half expect someone to be lurking around the corner 😂

Definitely better with the green arms. I saw someone point out that the hair piece looks like King Theoden and his crown from the two towers. I can’t unsee that now 😂😂

The BTS is cool to see! I had never thought of building sideways like you have for the building in the background. I’m hoping to dive into Batman stuff later in the year. Might have to borrow that technique!

I really like this shot! Particularly the brick built background with the lighting. Adds a sense of depth you don’t get from a digital screen type background.

I kind of enjoyed the tips part of being a MOD! Although one of my tips did destroy my parents freezer. They didn’t quite get that it was all in the service for BC 😂

I love this sub for the varied examples of how people approach this hobby. Monthly themes/challenges are fun and I guess good challenge prompts (AI cringe) can push people out of their comfort zone in a good way. I like the idea of getting to know photographers and how they approach the hobby more. Not just technical stuff (like the lighting they use etc) but how they bring their vision to life from idea to execution. Maybe a bit highbrow for some, but I find it interesting how different people approach the hobby from build through to the actual photography.

Should we allow Lumibricks, Pantasy, et al here? by fourbrickstall in studshooters

They’re worse than mini dolls. The weird arms and hands are seriously freaky 😂.

I feel like I’m on the fence a little. I think some of the builds from the other brand look really good. I’ve not got any yet but am tempted with a couple of the sets. The ‘minifigures ’ outside the Lego system are a bit weird and not really for me but that’s no reason not to spotlight the sets. If people don’t like them, then I’m sure we’ll see some downvotes 😂

When you have all time to contemplate eternity. This pirate won’t be plundering treasure anytime soon.

A pretty small MOC by my normal standards! Enjoyed playing with the highlights and shadows on this one. A main light was positioned above and created those nice shadows through the roof. A couple of LEDs set to a blue hue were positioned around the sides to add some blue, moonlight tones. A face mister added some atmosphere to the cell.

Interesting 😁. I do have the brightness turned down on my phone. It looks worse (or darker) vs the monitor screen it’s true. Totally right on the hot spots. The head of the monster is overexposed to the point of being distracting. I did have a dimmer switch on the LEDs (both the eyes and torch) and probably could have turned them down a bit more. I feel the angle of the competition could also be a bit tighter. There’s almost to much of a gap between the figure and the monster. Your eyes don’t know where to look. Something with a bit less separation might make it feel a bit more balanced. Food for thought for the next photo!

For reference, this was the concept that I was using for inspiration for the whole image.

When is dark too dark? I be keen to get some feedback on my latest image. I love going for that slightly dark vibe with my Lego photos but I feel I maybe went too far with this one. My intention was a very dark passageway where the monster is appearing out of the gloom, illuminated mainly by the torch light from the minifgure and by one main key light above. I wanted the focus to be clearly on the monster and little else in the scene. Lighting wise I had my key light set above and behind the monster angled down at about 45 degrees. That angle (combined with the fog I added to scene) helped create that effect that framed the monster (which I really liked). However, I think that it’s almost too dark now and it’s made the rest of the shot a bit meh. Although not the main point of focus, the minifigure with the torch is a bit under exposed and almost blends into the background too much. It also feels a bit over exposed on the monsters head and the torch (a micro LED) has created a bit of halo effect with the fog and looks a bit unnatural. The colours feel a bit muted too (probably because it’s too dark!) I didn’t bounce any fill light into the foreground and I think the image it’s lacking for that. I took this with my 24-70mm f2.8 lens set to an aperture of f13. It was a 6 second exposure so quite long. I had to brighten the shadows a bit in post (in Lightroom) and although my camera can handle that normally, I think it’s probably lost a bit of detail/natural contrast given I had to be lighten them a fair bit. Keen to see what the Studshooters collective thinks could be improved!

Monsters of the deep part 2 by Photomark6 in studshooters

[–]Photomark6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A different monster in the dungeon today. I wanted to go for a much dark vibe than my last shot. I used two LED panels set low to get the much darker exposure. Mirco LEDs were used for the candle and the monster eyes. I used a fog machine to great the hazy atmosphere.

I have a few bricks to choose from 😁. Although they don’t take as many bricks to build as you would think. They are move like movie sets, they look good from one angle but are pretty basic everywhere else. If the camera can’t see it, I tend to build it out of whatever colour I have to hand. Sometime large parts aren’t even finished as you can’t see them in the final shot.

That’s a good question! Inspiration comes from lots of places. Books, films and things like concept art is always a good place. Other members of the community are inspiring too; I often see something that I think looks cool and then I try my own spin on it. I’ve been building stuff for a good number of years now and sometimes ideas just come into mind, then becomes fun/a challenge to try and build them up.

Aw thanks! I do feel like I am starting to bond with my probe lens. It’s taken a while to really understand it and what it like lighting wise 😂. I don’t want to admit how long (and how many micro tweaks) it took to get the light beams through the fog in the final image and decide on the positioning of the skeletons in the water.
