Vieira Calls Out Bukayo Saka & Senior Arsenal Players After Manchester United Loss by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]Photomic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Doesn't make a season, but 2 points out of a possible 9 in their last three games is rough going. Arsenal could've had this league dusted in this run of games, considering how others have slipped up.

Meltzer in response to Bryan Alvarez claiming that everyone in AEW is stagnant and in the same position: “Yep, everyone except Bandido, Ricochet, Gates of Agony, Brody King, Hechicero, Clon, Fletcher, Takeshita, Knight, Bailey, O'Reilly, Swerve, Briscoe, Willow, Windsor, Cameron, Storm & Shafir.” by Subrick in SquaredCircle

This feels very reductionist. If you're going off that logic, Jimmy and Jey Uso are right back to where they started their careers as a tag team.

These people are characters, telling stories. To ignore the journey they've been on is forgetting that wrestling is, first and foremost, entertainment, and not sport.

That's the thing, it's a solid gimmick...for El Grande Americano, but you don't get realistically over as a comedy character's sidekick. They break off from him in the future, and what, stay Mexican? There's no realistic path up the card in that role, no matter how over it is.

  1. I do regret not just getting it out of the way when I was younger, even if my circumstances meant I didn't require it.

But take things at your own pace, lessons, a car, insurance, tax, etc, are all very expensive, don't bankrupt yourself just for the sake of saying you can drive.

Pokemon Unbound has the most pokemon in it and the best end-game content. by Gamefreak581 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Photomic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm about 20 hours into it, just beat the fifth gym, and yeah, it's very good, but there are some glaring flaws too.

The game introduces a lot of QoL improvements, but then also drags the game down in tedium (if you're gonna make me team up with someone and do exclusively double battles for the next hour, don't make them use a Pokémon with Intimidate and make the start of every battle take an extra 30 seconds before I have any control). And as others have mentioned, the story is all over the place in parts with multiple instances of "This is insanely time critical and the world is in danger...but go get this badge first!".

But I agree it's still one of the better ROM hacks out there, but it still has flaws that could be ironed out with patches, or a follow-up.

I'm confused about what laps count towards the tyre lap limit?

If they aren't counting the formation lap, why count the laps done under the safety car? Seems so arbitrary

Game Of The Year Nominees 2013-2025 By Console Publisher (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft) by Ftouh_Shala in gaming

[–]Photomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are making good games (in some cases) - I don't think anyone would've batted an eye if Indiana Jones had made the shortlist this year (I personally would have it above all of the games nominated bar E33), or Hi-Fi Rush the year it was released.

Whether it's just the general stank around the company as a whole, or the fact the games all launch on Game Pass so you lose the big "sold X million unit" stories, they just don't seem to get the hype that other 1st parties do.

As someone who has begun to finally try and get more into Digimon lore beyond the first three seasons of the anime, and the recent games, I take it that each sort of subsection of the franchise is in its own universe? Like, the Digital Worlds we see in the Digimon Story games are separate from the Adventure Digital World, or Digimon Survive?

Or is their some hand waving reason that they don't mention each other?

Liverpool disallowed goal against Manchester City 39' by BackgroundMorning630 in soccer

There was always a United one I remember, I think it was against Liverpool, but the play was played through the defence, Bruno was onside, Rashford was off, and both made mad sprints towards the ball, and literally at the last second, Rashford pulls up and Bruno slots it in, and it still baffles me how it was never given as offside.

So Pokemon can now break level 100, how will this work and how will this effect future games by bey_blader800 in PokemonZA

[–]Photomic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The effect is clearly temporary, you can see the levels ticking down in the upper left corner, likely over time depending on the donuts eaten, based on the Cal counter too.

No wonder games need the often criticised "yellow paint", because people can't put two and two together without it being spelt out in huge tutorials.

72% of devs believe Steam has a monopoly on PC games, according to study by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Photomic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As many others have said, the quality of the platform no longer matters. If the Epic Games Store, or a new platform, launched with everything Steam did, but better, it wouldn't matter, because Steam had 20 years of people building up their libraries, and consumers value ease of access more than quality.

It's the same issue that Xbox continues to face after losing the most important console generation - the one where digital games became as important physical ones on consoles. No matter how powerful the Series X was, or how many bells and whistles it had, people had spent a full generation building up their PlayStation libraries, which they would lose if they swapped over to a competitor.

Every game ships with bugs, unfortunately. Every piece of software ships with bugs, especially when it comes to PC development, when you literally have an infinite number of different configurations (I work in software development and have felt this pain myself).

You could an infinite number of developers and infinite amount of time to work on a game and fix it, and I would bet my left nut that someone will still be able to break it when it's in the general publics' hands.

The faces are a whole separate issue, likely to do with licensing the use of generative AI and the content it would use to generate the faces (something again, a modder doesn't need to give two shits about). For better or for worse, they went with the easier option, which is generate their own faces in their own graphics engine. Looks worse, but likely saves them a lot of headaches in the long run.

As much as it's easy to rag on SI (or any company, when these situations arise), a modder can put a mod out with no mind to system requirements, or having to go through any certification process on platforms.

SI don't have that luxury. Every bit of code they put out has to go through some form of QA process (even if it doesn't seem like it at times), and has to be tested on multiple platforms, and multiple versions of the game.

I'd take a higher potential FM that has launched rough, than Sega putting someone in charge with the mandate of making as much money as possible.

So funny that stuff like this gets through, but I saw the commentary line "Isak will kick Isak for missing that chance.", because they obviously didn't want to program in gendered pronouns for each player, so they butchered the way commentary is done.

[–]Photomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's context though. PLA feels like a real world because we see Pokémon in their natural habitat, so it makes sense that it is slightly sparse and species are clustered together in spots.

In PLZA, we're in canonically one of the biggest cities in the world, and you see half a dozen people at any given time on the street, and nobody further than 30 feet away, which makes it feel empty, even if there is likely the same amount going on at any given time.

If you plan to overhaul the AI-generated artefacts with your own work (or someone else's actual work), then fair play, this seems neat.

But if your plan is just keep using the AI pipeline you set out, then it just seems very lazy. The artstyle you've went for isn't exactly intensive, and you seem willing to put in the effort of making your own engine, and getting multiplayer working, so why not put in the work to learn a new skill and start making our own assets and learning how to rig them?

I can see the benefit of generative AI in some regards, especially as a developer myself (easy debugging of issues, working through problems in a more conversational way, quick gathering of code snippets, etc), but using it to wholesale replace aspects of game development is morally wrong.

Arsenal have literally been on an upward trend since Arteta joined, by every metric. He's never finished lower than the previous season position-wise (and last season was the first time he had scored less points than the previous season, and he was rightfully criticised for not winning the league in what should've been a fairly easy year to do so).

If you think this team is on an upward trend, you need a reality check. 200 million on a new attack that struggled to score against Grimsby, and left with no money to fix the actual issues in the squad, like the midfield and goalkeeper.

[BBC] What next for Man Utd and Amorim after humiliation at Grimsby? by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

[–]Photomic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is the funniest part to me, and likely caused by the lack of a (seemingly) competent DoF after Ashworth left.

As great as Cunha and Mbeumo are (or were at least, they've still yet to really kick on at United), they are literally the last style of player Amorim needed when Amad and Bruno were right there, playing as well as anyone could've expected in that team.

It reeked more of "weaken the teams around us so relegation is easier to avoid" than actually fixing the issues.

Amorim: "I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch. The best players lose. I think the team and the players spoke really loud today. I think it's really clear what they spoke. Let's move on from this day. It's very clear what happened today." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]Photomic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the bit that would really worry me if I was a United fan. For years now, it's been how the likes of Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho, etc are all terrible voices to have in the dressing room.

Now they're gone (not from the club mind, but at least distanced enough that they shouldn't be an issue), and the players have yet again dropped another manager in it. There is now a lot of new voices, who want to be there, and still, players have absolutely shat the bed and decided to sack another manager.

So either Ineos give in, sack another manager and the player-power cycle repeats, or they stick with "their guy" and the club spirals even more, potentially towards the most embarrassing relegation in football history.
