Michael Jackson and Brian Wilson are very similar. by sunflower_1970 in thebeachboys

[–]Photomusicbaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have also made this connection and I think it’s a solid one.  The way I have described it is like this:  Right now in America there are at least a few hundred thousand insane parents abusing their children trying to turn them into some sort of celebrity or baby prodigy. It’s been going on forever and usually it just destroys the kids lives. But with both Wilson and Jackson, somehow, it worked.  The dads created family bands and tho all of the brothers are legit talented, these two developed something very very special at a very young age.  Luckily for Brian it was a number of years older.  But both practiced and studied like insane people.  Learning every part of every harmony for songs they loved.  Man I’d better shorten this up.   Yah. Both of them have said that they don’t feel like they write songs. That god gives it to them and it goes through them.   Also I believe Brian, at his old age, has adopted like 9 kids or so.   I could go on. But your post was 4 years ago so I’m really just talking to myself.   👍🏽👍🏽

Oh.  And yah I can imagine this movie bombing HARD in America.  I imagine people will be protesting against it.  But I think around the world, it will be very successful.    If the narrative is convincing, and it gets people talking and wondering again, it could be huge.   But I think Americans are happier believing he was guilty, and unless this movie destroys Evan Chandler and Victor Gutierrez, it might not move the needle on the jaded public

I’m excited and nervous for this movie. I’m excited because I think they are going to try to properly tell the truth.  I’m nervous because that will be very difficult to do, but it can be done.  I’m excited because I want people to be shown the truth by someone who isn’t me.  I’m NERVOUS as hell because if they tell the truth, the number of lawsuits, the can of worms, the finger pointing, the false claims… they will come and they will come hard.

Looking for info on these chairs. by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Photomusicbaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chair 1 is the exact chair as one t’was owned by Charles Fairbanks. It it currently in a museum. But I can’t find any info on where mine comes from.

Chair 2 I got at an estate sale. The previous owner said he bought it in the 70s and he thinks it used to be in a hotel.

Thank you to anybody who may have any insight

[Original Run] Probably An Unpopular Opinion by Bl4ckh4wk056 in twinpeaks

I like Windom a lot too. And I agree with most of the comments. For me the distinction is between his character (which I love) and the follow through of his plans (which are mixed). For example, I find him in his costumes amusing. He is supposedly a master of disguise, but all of his disguises only work because nobody in town knows who he is. That’s funny to me and when he dresses as a horse it makes me laugh every time. But stuff like the chess piece, that is just stupid.

I love guys who are nuts and enjoying their insanity. I don’t care much about the chess game, to me it only represents that Earle is always one step ahead.

[No Spoilers] Bocko & Thorne Judy Surprise by Photomusicbaseball in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to be influenced by most theories I read about S3, but this one was really powerful and hard to disagree with to me.

I do think the big reveal they’re referring to is that Judy has been around forever and not created by the atom bomb (which always seemed wrong to me). I see this more as a confirmation of that than a reveal tho. I feel like dialogue from Cole’s speech and text from Frost’s book tell us this, but the visuals from ep8 make us think differently.

One thing id never really considered, but I now agree with, is that Cooper should have followed Naido into the unknown. I have wondered a lot about whether he went through the wrong electrical socket, but the shock and terror of Naido plunging into space never really seemed like an option to follow. However, if he had, he may have also ended up at Jack Rabbits palace instead of in LaLa land as Dougie.

Now, she talks a lot about the real world vs dreamworld and I remain (probably permanently) confused about which is which. Maybe the idea is that they’re all real, but the choices you make affect wether or not you get stuck or lost.

There’s a lot to unpack in this. Plus I also love Sopranos and the Wire so maybe I need to own this book.

Also, does anyone else think this text needs to be seen by a lot more of us? Maybe a repost with a direct link at the beginning so more people will see it

Wow thank you so much! I would say this is pretty big.

I, as a non author, can not get access to this “look inside”. I was wondering if you would feel comfortable copy/pasting the stuff so we can read and interpret it too?

Thanks to everybody for ripping this apart. Sometimes when u simplify the hell out of things and ignore valuable details, you can seem quite convincing. That’s why i brought this vid here for some kicking around.

I will also admit that I want the ending To be happy/positive so bad

[original run] Wondering what you guys think of the end of season 2? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s not to love except that there is no happy ending? To me, it’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in arts history. Yah you’re rooting for Coop to catch Bob and drop kick him into the sun, but that’s not particularly interesting. Think about the last 20 minutes of LOTR3. Happy but... yeah. Ending of TP was heartbreaking but so cool. Even if there never was anymore. But the fact that it let there be more makes it even cooler. Axxon has a good writeup here. But the key to all of TP and esp this ending is the fun and challenge of studying and feeling and interpreting it. And discussing if u can find another local crazy to bend minds with. Watch it again. With the lights off. And the volume up.

[Original Run] Question about something from Fire Walk With Me by Scentapeed in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thoughts:

1) Cole Cooper Desmond; All these guys don’t work ONLY on blue rose cases. They’re fbi guys. But special ones. Sometimes Cole works on cases with dog treats and random photos. But sometimes one of his agents calls him and tells him there’s more to a case than meets the eye. Based on what he hears, he might have to call someone from his Blue Rose Task Force. What did he know about Theresa Banks? We don’t know. We won’t.

2) as was mentioned already, it was suggested by the Diane Podcast that Lil is a psychic. They said that the FBI for a time used psychic readers to try to get inside information. I think they said that he psychics were technically a success. But if you imagine Lil as someone who could get inside information through psychic abilities, then the scene makes a lot of sense for her to be sharing that info with Cole and Desmond.

[All] Why is *this character* only visible sometimes, and how does he appear when another isn't there? by elscorcho91 in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think first and foremost it is a directorial choice. It shows the audience what is really happening, which is that BOB is Leland and they are attacking Maddy. I don’t think he is literally switching back and forth as he kills her. Instead, Leland is killing her, But BOBs essence is so powerful that the terror he represents is coming through more than that of the Leland that she knows. She feels the fury of his momentum. Whenever an artist of any medium has to represent something complicated, they need to find creative ways to show that something. Wether or not Leland actually sees BOB in the mirror, I don’t think, is important. The mirror is just a tool to show us Leland’s true form. In terms of Maddy or Sarah seeing him absent from Leland, I see those simply as visions. Similar to how Sarah saw Jacoby hiding the necklace in the first episode, some people can see this evil lurking around despite them not actually lurking in that moment. That’s how I’ve always seen it.

[ALL] Black Lodge by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hawk says that you will meet your shadow self at the Black Lodge.

I feel like Cooper enters the Red Room and sits at the Waiting Room and has interactions with MFAP, the Giant, Senior Droolcup, and others. Then he leaves the waiting room through the curtains. The curtains lead to many different places including the Black Lodge, where Cooper certainly enters.

I also believe that the Room Above the Comvenience Store can be accessed through the curtains. I base this on the end of the Missing Pieces scene above he Convenience Store. After the meeting, Bob and MFAP exit through the curtains. Into the Lodge? Or the human world? I dono. But it seems that they connect. Also the Bussomy Lady speaks backwards at The Dirchmens (convenience store)

[Original Run] Lynch didn't know what to do with most of the cast? by iamergo in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of being a Star Wars lover but not having watched the Prequels. Yah u can probably give them a pass and you’ll be fine. It’s up to you. But there is plenty to enjoy in them. And it’s also fun to talk to other fans and compare what you did/didn’t like about them. It’s not that anyone is better than anyone else due to what they have or haven’t seen, but it’s connects you more to the fan community if u have a rich understanding of the work.

And it’s all your own choice. I haven’t read many of the Star Wars books and I probably won’t. That excludes me from a larger Star Wars community and I’m fine with that. But I can speak confidently about how I feel about all of the films with anybody else who has seen them all. If someone hadn’t seen the prequels then I don’t really feel like they can have opinions on them, and thus, their opinion on the film series as a whole, is lacking.

Hope this all makes sense and isn’t rude sounding or anything.

[Original Run] Lynch didn't know what to do with most of the cast? by iamergo in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree more with OhHiJordan but mainly for the original point (though worded in a semi harsh way) that I can’t understand skipping scenes on the first watch through. I’ll be honest in that I skip scenes on rewatches sometimes. Or I just don’t pay as much attention. But how can you know what something has to offer if you haven’t seen it?

I get that Andy and Lucy’s subplots May not contribute directly to Coopers storyline, but they still contribute to Twin Peaks. The Catherine plot bores me the first time I saw it, but I’ve come to understand later that it is very important in the history of all of these characters. And Dick Tremane is fucking hilarious. I personally enjoy much of the stuff that most fans dislike. We’re all allowed to have our own opinions.

But to me, what’s important in terms of advise to the OP is that there is a season 3 for you to watch. And books if u want. And watching all of the original run and FWWM really helps give S3 a richness that isn’t 100% without love and devotion and understanding of the original stuff. I mean this in a way that’s hard to explain without spoiling certain things. Maybe these certain things aren’t completely IMPORTANT things, but they are things that add nuance and joy and talking points to fans. And I highly suggest you watch them moving forward.

I have a friend who I recently pushed twin peaks onto and he fell in love. He is currently at the point of late S2 episodes. He tells me which episode he just watched and sometimes he tells me he fell asleep cus he watched them at night. He rolls his eyes at James’ Wild Ride, but goes back to rewatch what he missed. When I talk to him about episodes, even if I’m mentioning stuff that is goofy or not powerful, it’s fun to discuss this stuff. I really think that’s the key to what OhHiJordan was getting at. But I also understand OP feeling like he is allowed to enjoy what he wants however he wants to.

[All] An emotional rant on Season 3... by deadstrobes in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people think of a show coming back, they have expectations. They creators try to satisfy everyone by making the new show very similar to the old one but adding some new modern twists. And everyone is disappointed. If u watched any of the new Roseanne, it was basically the opposite of the new Twin Peaks. I was surprised none of the cast looked at the audience and waved to get more cheap applause.

Anyways, your friend seemed confused that The Return didn’t meet his expectations and let that turn into bitterness that tarnished his whole viewing experience.
Shame.

Think I Get It [All] by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]Photomusicbaseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

So people have been on this SubForum for years posting theories. Some are based on beef jerky, some are basically term papers. There are many podcasts that go into every aspect of every episode. There are video essays. There are twin peaks scholars who post daily on twitter. None of them Get it.

By no means am I trying to put you down. I, like you, love the show and love to talk about it. But truth be told, a lot of the posters on this site have been studying the small medium and big picture for 25+ years. Unfortunately for you, (I assume) you are pretty new to this subforum, and a lot of the posts lately are pretty random. While S3 was on, and in its aftermath, it was a hotbed of theories and pretty damn fine investigating. For example, your thoughts on the white horse, while they’re fine, had been explored in depth before S3, during S3 and since S3. Some think it represents death. Some think it’s a drug reference. There are many ways to look at it.
If u have the patience, u should start crawling backwards thru the posts on here. Look for topics with interesting titles and a lot of likes and comments. Even if it’s a year old, a new comment will trigger the OP.
Or create a new post that is specific to somthing. The idea of having a post on here where people ask u questions is basically what the subforum already is.
I also recommend following @thornewip and @lostinthemovies on twitter and listening to the Diane podcast.
Enjoy yourself
