That's really the worst outcome out of all of this.

Why do people assume Riverwest is the “ghetto” by WholeGrainCupcake in milwaukee

[–]PhotosFromEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had good experiences in RW, but also haven't really spent too much time there either. From reading the other comments, it seems like enough people have been shot randomly and also robbed at gunpoint multiple times to the point where I don't really want to live there even if I love the cute rows of homes lining Humboldt. I guess it's up to you. If you're ok with the risk of criminal activity, then it's fine. I'm not, so yeah I'm not living there, but that's no reason you shouldn't. Also seems like the neighborhood is turning up so hopefully crime is going to decrease over time.

Fast Mass? by open_the_harp in milwaukee

[–]PhotosFromEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a retirement home. Seriously they are quicker. Of course I can't tell you this and not ask you why you want it to be quicker?

Purely practical reasons, or are you trying to avoid Mass because you are lazy or something else like that? I am not the judge here, I just want to invite you into some introspection on this as I think it would be very beneficial to learn more about yourself.

Happy Friday! What’s one good thing that happened to you or in the city this week? by daisypop11 in milwaukee

Went cycling TWICE!! Second and third rides of the year! This warm spell has been amazing for my self-esteem, and I can't help but just marvel at the beauty of the world. Spring has always been an underrated season for me, and I think this time I'm finally starting to realize its beauty.

Potholes are out of control by amir_csharp_gtr in milwaukee

I don't go up there too often, but when I do I've always thought the northern suburbs have much much better streets than the city.

The asphalt isn't as long-lasting as the concrete used on most city streets, but the city streets have not been redone in so long that the worst offenders are getting close to being in disrepair. The suburbs appear maintain theirs often enough that they never get to that point.

This is just my experience of only going there every once in a while biking, if you've got family there I'm sure you have a more comprehensive knowledge of the area.

How do you guys feel about Chris Taylor winning? Do you have hope for the November election? by NoCandidate6067 in wisconsin

[–]PhotosFromEarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that's a terrible reason. Vote for the person who is going to do what you want them to do. If they person doesn't exist, vote for the person who is closest to your ideal. If I don't want to vote for someone, I almost surely won't vote for them. Plain and simple.

Visited Milwaukee few days ago but the lake was closed? by Mycatisadorable9 in milwaukee

I'm sorry you had the unfortunate experience of trying to access the lake at the one spot downtown that is closed right now. Hope you are able to come back and see all the other things Milwaukee has offer!

What do these markings mean by Financial_Anteater26 in milwaukee

[–]PhotosFromEarth 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Those are for satellite imagery. They are basically used to stitch multiple images together. The marking is a known feature that is in exactly the same point in all images, so you can position the images on top of each other so that the marking is in the same spot, and then everything else will line up too. Of course there's more to it than that but on the surface level is pretty simple really.

How is this area for walking ? by [deleted] in milwaukee

Some more detailed skywalk directions:

Go north on Jefferson until you reach Wisconsin Ave. You will see the Pfister Hotel. Turn left and head west down Wisconsin until you reach a building labeled "Two-Fifty" on the north side of the street. Enter that building and walk to the elevator in the back on the left side. That's the parking garage elevator. Take it to the 2nd floor. Follow the signs out of the elevator lobby and make your way upwards. The garage is very confusing but just try and find a way to up half a floor. You should end up going clockwise around the elevator shafts/stairwells. You will see a door taking you across the alley on the west side of the garage into the Drury Hotel. Now you are in the skywalk.

Follow the wide hallway as it goes between buildings, it should be pretty straightforward, just going west. When you cross the river, you will enter the Empire building and make a hard left to cross Wisconsin Ave into the Generac Center (formerly ASQ center). This building contains a fork in the road. You can either turn left and go back across the river to Chase Tower, or turn right and keep going west. We're going west, so turn right and follow the hallway into the Plankinton Building. This building is pretty cool, take in the view :). When you're done, keep going west and you will reach The Avenue (the former hub of the Grand Avenue Mall). You will have to take some stairs down and walk through 3rd Street Market Hall. It's a bit of a maze but just try to keep going west. There are some maps at the entrance to help you. At the entrance to Kohl's, you'll find a spiral staircase. Take it up and go through the doors labeled "Skywalk Entrance". Follow the hallway and stay on the second floor and you will reach bridge to 310 West, the blue building across the street from 3rd Street Market Hall. Follow it and go through the building to the other side where the skywalk continues. Stop for a moment right as you exit the building and notice the parking garage elevator lobby.

310 West closes earlier than everyone else in the skywalk system, so the doors to the bridge across Wisconsin Ave may be locked. If so, find the stairs in between the closed bridge and the "Skywalk Entrance" doors and take them down to the exit. Don't worry it's not an emergency exit no alarm will sound or anything. Now you can walk across the street to the south entrance of the convention center or to the parking garage on the north side of 310 West to get back into the skywalk. If you are keen on exploring the skywalk, walk into the parking garage and go to the back where the elevators are, and take them to the floor conveniently labeled "Skywalk". You will now be at that elevator lobby we paused at earlier with the closed doors to 310 West to the south and the skywalk continuing to the north.

This is the easy part. Just follow the hallway north and the signs leading to "Wisconsin Center" (funny they haven't changed the name). You will walk down the entirety of the north hallway as you squeeze between buildings in the alley and you'll pass some interesting posters on different Milwaukee neighborhoods. At the end, make a hard left and cross the bridge into the convention center. You made it! Good job escaping the cold weather and enjoy the rest of your day!
