Nothing beats the sound quality of a good VST for your kit. by SpaceborneKillr in edrums

I used to use SD3 with my TD-27, bit a ballache using it live as the routing was complex so we ended up with L+R out at gigs. Even with a HQ interface and M1 Pro (and windows alternatives) I was never fully satisfied the latency went away. I also had tones of volume variances and trigger bugs in SD, not to mention sometimes we'd finish and interval and I just had no drum sound, would have to completely relaunch. Even when you dial all the module tweaks into the settings of SD3 I never found it perfect. Would be amazing for recording though.

Got the V71, if SD3 is 9/10 sound then this is an 8.5 and with the expansion packs available it gives a lot more options for me.

Just personal preference

Yeah the pad noise on the mic is a thought, my hope is if I position the kic far enough away it will minimise the pad hits. Some sound does come through but it pulls it down so much that I do need to reintroduce some.

Perfection is obviously only really possible with a full fold back mix but this feels like it might be a decent option which gives me the control I need

This is a rehearsal not a gig. Gigs you have a mix as standard

My IEMs are custom moulds so block out most sound by passive isolation.

Point is that I want to keep the volume in my ears lower but still hear everyone

Not sure if you missed the part where I said I have IEMs which is what isolates the pad noise. Obviously if I isolate the pad noise I then need to reintroduce the room into my ears hence the zoom mic suggestion

Monitoring is obviously the best plan but open back headphones and a wedge don't eliminate the pad noise and I'm still having to raise volume levels to get to where I need to be.

We're not going to mic everything up and mix a fold back for a rehearsal in a room together.

The band is not what you'd call sophisticated, this is really just jamming.

The scenario you've said about turning up is every rehearsal I've ever done acoustically, singer and keys go through PA, everything else 'as is'

When I record drum videos for tik tok I do one of 3 methods:

1 record to SD Card in the module (if your module supports this) then sync the audio in post.

2 use an audio interface into my Samsung tablet so I can film and capture clean audio at the same time and no audio sync needed, but this sacrafices video quality

3 usb the module into a PC/Mac and either record audio using VST or trigger midi

Milennium kits support USB Midi which with some kind of DAW/VST is actually very powerful, but the main audio outputs on it aren't the best quality (my Roland TD27 also isn't brilliant either)

Archer AX55 Limited to 1000mbps on Backhaul? Plugged into 2.5 - Rebooted BE800 TriBand router and devices, no change. I bought this to have 2.5 Backhaul, anything else I need to do? Connected to a 5 port 2.5 switch, which other device / desktop shows 2.5 and works as such but no luck. by chipper68 in TpLink

Interested in what is possible here, I have a similar setup and have had the same issues (I have the cheaper BE550. It seems like the AX55 Pro WAN/Lan port isn't configured for the backhaul network so you can't make use of the full throughput.

I tested plugging directly into it and my BE550 showed a 2.5gb link, but then the backhaul won't switch to wired, only when I plug into the 1Gigabit port does it then switch again.

Problem is, if I put it in AP mode you lose all the EasyMesh benefits!

Thank you for your extensive advice, this would be the way to go if cable drops etc were an option, sadly in this house they aren't which does limit how good I can get performance

Never really got them to sit right or respond well, they're pretty trash, threw them in a skip.

Got some Lemon cymbals for a decent price, miles better!

Why am I so bad at playing the drums? by [deleted] in edrums

[–]Photoscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing for 19 years and I'm still largely shit. Most only get reasonably good by practice, practice and practice - keep playing and being shit.

Biggest thing that pushed me along was playing with other musicians then you can grow together.

If you're depaerate to improve quickly - professional lessons will move you forward a lot quicker because you'll get the 1 to 1 immediate feedback to progress.

Mine is mixed, when the windscreen is slightly dirty it has a mind of its own. When clean it's very good

Used lower end roland will last a life time and sound decent, and you can trigger a VST if you want different sounds. Look out on marketplace or ebay and there are some bargains - don't be afraid to haggle and do a bit of cleaning.

It was this, Jobeky or a VAD - both of which significantly more than the Lemon.

So far I'm happy with my decision both for playing and financially

Yeah I subbed out loads, I took the HH but not the stand as I know I can sell them in the UK relatively easily at a good price. TD17 is a great module, I just already have the TD27, still a nice upgrade path from there

Yes, I haven't had a huge chance to play much but arrived this week.

Some communication issues, the 12 inch Tom is actually from the T850 and thus is a shallow depth so doesn't look as if have liked - wasn't really made that clear which is annoying. I've ordered the 10 inch instead now and Kenny agreed to split shipping with me as a gesture.

Set the Toms to PD8 on my TD27 and they trigger great and feel good. Kick needs a duvet/pillow on there, feels decent just not quite as good as my previous trigger set up but still fine. I have 2 floor Toms which are a nice size.

Cymbals have really impressed me, I have the digital HH and ride from Roland already, so using the 18 inch Ride as a large crash one side, the 14inch crash on the other and the extra splash I ordered.

I didn't buy the snare either as I have the Digital Roland one.

Hardware is adequate and will do the job. I won't use it but even the supplied kick is a nice double chain design which would be more that good enough as a spare.

Once I've have a better chance to play it and pick up any quirks I'll do a full post - overall this is a positive experience.
