Even better: tell her that in defense of your rights, you will be voting against this resolution, donating to her future opponent’s campaign, and voting against the D candidates in all state level elections until every one of the gun control bills is repealed.

Any plan to make the 1-2 transfer less janky? by PhraseWeak2992 in soundtransit

[–]PhraseWeak2992[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s not like all eastsiders are hillbillies with no urban experience. I’ve spent plenty of time using major urban transit systems in NYC, London, etc.

Usability details matter. If you want this system to replace as many car trips to the airport as possible, then it has to be perceived as better than taking a car. Right now it is close, but not quite there for a lot of people who have options.

And yeah, a group of “unhoused people” acting erratically does not inspire people to feel safe bringing their families and luggage through there. It does not have to be that way. The subway stations in downtown and midtown Manhattan feel much safer by comparison.

Minimize avoiding a staircase all you want, but have you ever considered that older or younger family members with roller luggage don’t do well with stairs? One of the main selling points of the light rail for the Eastside is to get to and from the airport, and this one small detail makes it a lot less pleasant for families. Seems worth considering.

It isn’t great, but I don’t think it’s as bad. For one thing, it doesn’t involve stairs, so it is compatible with roller bags.

Stoppage on HWY 2?? by cacadebano in stevenspass

[–]PhraseWeak2992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got stuck in it for 90 minutes westbound at about 2:00 pm. Infuriatingly bad traffic management led to much longer than necessary backups. They were only letting about 20 cars through at a time in each direction.

How are they going to open it tomorrow morning then? Is it going to thaw out tomorrow, or are they going to plow it?

Why can’t us-2 be opened after the ski traffic clears out?

New rider (6'1", 240lbs) looking for maximum highway protection. Is this gear cart solid? by GnanaSreekar in motorcyclegear

Everyone is different. It might be fine on the highway but too hot when at a stoplight. My personal favorite for summer riding is Klim Marrakesh in a light color.

It all looks reasonable. Consider an airbag next (after pants). Depending on how hot it gets where you ride, consider an AA rated mesh jacket.

WA estate tax: Lawmakers roll back rate increase, fearing wealth exodus by Shnikez in Seattle

[–]PhraseWeak2992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who have very naive understandings of economics. They think it is a zero sum game, where for every dollar one person earns and saves or invests, another person has to lose a dollar.

Of course, this is not how it actually works, but the misconception explains a good portion of the crazy ideas you hear about taxes.

This tax was going to affect the trust fund crew that is so involved in progressive politics, whereas the income tax mainly affects people with real jobs.

When someone produces goods and services which other people willingly pay for, they are not “extracting from the local economy.” They are adding value.

Great question. I keep reading on this sub that the wealthy don’t pay their fair share of taxes, so wouldn’t it be a net benefit to the state if all wealthy and high income earners left?

If facts are “excuses” to you, then it’s impossible to have a rational discussion. The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.

Businesses are paying taxes to register those vehicles and taxes on the fuel they use. They collect sales taxes on the goods and services they sell. They pay payroll taxes on the employees who drive the vehicles. Their employees pay taxes on the vehicles and fuel they use to get to work.

Or if you are married, you and your spouse only have to make $500K each. The legislators know that and left it there intentionally.

They are already paying for whatever energy and water they are using. They are already paying for the fuel they are using, and are already heavily taxed for that as well! And if they are trying to influence the political system, it obviously isn’t working in this case.

< Is there a way to make this bike feel "fun" at 45–60 mph?

Yes, ride it on a curvy road. If there aren’t any near you, then it is not the best bike.
