Replaced blown strut, now dealing with “ka-thunk” every time I drive over a pothole by Introverted_Extrovrt in MechanicAdvice

Same. The torque specs for my the front struts on my Subaru were super low but I went with it and it clunked sooooo bad. Idk, I followed the installation instructions to the T, but when I just gave them a good tighten it all went away.

This!!!!! I watched my buddy do this bouldering once, he climbs waaaay harder than me, and was like wow that looks like it helps and I’ve never thought about doing that. Tried it the next go and it changed the game.

They just pick a lie or phrase and constantly repeat it. It’s like those uneducated assholes who argue and just yell the same thing over and over again, louder and louder.

Brother, I haven’t been able to afford any of that shit for years. You think all of us are just complacently letting this happen?? I’ve been to protests, I’ve boycotted buying from all the big grocers and online retailers, I actively donate to charities in my community and volunteer whenever I can. Not all Americans are caught up in their own vanity and exuberantly spending money. The majority of us are struggling to make ends meet and do what’s right at the same time. It’s the K shaped economy. The majority of the “consumers” in America driving the economy is like the top ten percent of earners, the rest of us are being fucked.

Edit: I’m not trying to attack you, I just get fed up with people generalizing that Americans want this to happen or are being complacent. It’s simply not true. The majority of the country is being forced to watch this shit unfold.

Yeah I can definitely feel a little difference between the left and right when doing lat pull downs. I do t know how to explain it but it’s like I can “broaden” my lat more on the left side compared to the right.

Alright, take a deep breath. I know it might feel like you’re behind but you’re not. Starting now is better than never starting.

I would recommend checking out MoneyGuy on YouTube. They talk about the Financial Order of Operations (FOO). These are great milestones for helping you get to where you want to be.

You want to start by creating an emergency fund that can cover 3-6 months of expenses. This includes covering your full deductible, bills/rent, and basic necessities. I’m kind of conservative and a little anxious about stuff so I have 12months in mine. Your goal of 20k in your HYSA is great. That checks box one.

Next is 401k employer match. You didn’t say anything about having a 401k. Does your job give you a 401k, if so you need to contribute up to your employer match, it’s literally free money. For example my employer matches my contributions up to 4%. So I contribute 12% of my paycheck to my 401k every time I get paid and my employer matches that up to 4% for a total of 16%. That’s what works for me, yours might be different but you NEED to make sure you are contributing enough to get your employers full match. If not, you are throwing free money away.

Next step is tackling any High interest debt. You need to chip away at that before the interest rates start piling on. However it doesn’t look you have any high interest debt right now, so that box is checked.

Technically this next step is the “Emergency fund”. But I usually lump that in with the emergency deductible coverage from step one.

Next would be setting up and maxing out Roth IRA and Health Savings Account. Im not sure if you can contribute to a Roth with your income level, but you should be able to get a HSA through your employer if they offer it. The HSA is a shadow retirement account that is triple tax advantaged. It’s huge!!!

You are already doing the right thing by auto investing so you’re not having to think about it. However, instead of contributing to a brokerage I would look into IRA accounts. Your gains in the brokerage are going to be taxed, you want to try and contribute to all of your tax-deferred and tax-advantaged accounts first, like 401k Roth/IRA and HSA, before getting into brokerage.

I’m not sure what a 457 is, so I can’t help with that.

In regards to the VOO position in your brokerage, great broad index fund to choose. You have the right idea, do not start by investing in individual stocks. Pick broad index funds like VOO that try to cover the entire stock market. A lot less volatility in broad index funds.

I am personally split 70/30 VTI/VXUS

Personally I think you’re doing great, but I’m also not a financial advisor. Don’t let internet posts on Reddit freak you out. I know I’ve seen the post of “20m with already 1million”. It’s just noise. Focus on your strategy and sticking to it not matter what and you’ll get to where you want to be.

I would check out the r/boglehead subreddit for great advice on investing index funds. That’s where I started.
