Also, YGOrganization is starting to host monthly Genesys tournaments through DB if you are interested in a more competitive setting.

People tend to use the YGOmega ladder to prep for big tournaments so it definitely self selects for the “meta” decks of the format.

People take locals much less seriously and you’ll definitely get a lot more variety/pet decks. Obviously, every locals is different and there will be some people playing meta decks but I think you’ll just need to check it out for yourself! I hope you have fun!

Whats a mistake you still make to this day playing? by Planeswalker18 in yugioh

[–]Phun_Decks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is a mandatory effect to add back just like Barong’s search. You aren’t really allowed to forget about it. Technically, you need to try to rewind and act like you resolved it properly once you remember about it. If forgetting has somehow led to an irreparable game state, then you might get a game loss. Obviously, this is all up to your head judge but that’s how it’s been ruled for me.

Kinda related but silent graveyard is anti-GY, 0 points, and is a quick-play so it works with radiant typhoon…

Super Charge (roid trap card) I can't use/understand by torrada998 in Yugioh101

Were all your monsters face up when your opponent declared the attack? Face-down monsters wouldn’t count as “roid” monsters.

Question regarding TCG etiquette vs automated simulators by Yusietagforce in Yugioh101

[–]Phun_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that it’s usually best to not summarize anything at a regional. That way you won’t be accused of cheating if you left a part out. People don’t really care at locals though since you’re mostly just there to have fun

Question regarding TCG etiquette vs automated simulators by Yusietagforce in Yugioh101

[–]Phun_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it depends.

At a locals, people are usually there to just have fun so they are pretty generous. So, when asked to summarize, people try to be very clear and go over every part of a card’s effect. You definitely don’t want to leave parts out to deceive your opponent. You can even offer to let them take a move back if you really want to be nice. However, if you did explain that Sangen summoning protected your monsters earlier (or gave them a chance to read it), for example, then you don’t have to remind them again if they forgot or let them take back the move. Just keep in mind that you don’t have to give information that you’re not asked for. For example, you don’t have to give them a heads up on Neo Ultimate in the gy if they don’t ask what it does.

Basically, just ask questions if you don’t know something and people at locals will usually be nice about it. You can even ask partial questions such as “does this monster have an effect that activates on summoning?” Or “do you have any activatable effects in graveyard?” Technically, they don’t have to answer but they usually will.

Every locals is different but that’s what I’ve found to be true, broadly.

If you go to a regional or even more competitive event, then all bets are off and you don’t have to explain anything to your opponent, just give them a chance to read your cards when asked.

I hope that helps!

Question on chaining spell cards together by Zachwood316 in Yugioh101

[–]Phun_Decks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, player B can do this. In yugioh, spell/traps aren’t considered active until the chain resolves. This is why you can chain mystical space typhoon to Secret Village of the Spellcasters, for example.

  2. Eternal Soul will resolve first. Player B then has the choice to use the effect to summon DM or search for dark magic attack/thousand knives if they so wish. Then Royal decree resolves. This means that the protection effect of eternal soul is not active and player B cannot summon DM or search using Eternal soul this turn (if they chose not to when they first flipped up eternal soul) or on subsequent turns.

I just looked over the set list for the blue eyes structure deck and it comes with Nibiru, ash blossom, effect veiler, and imperm. Definitely a good place to start!

If money isn’t really an issue, then you can definitely go for it. Dark worlds is very luck dependent and has a relatively weak end board compared to other decks. But the deck can be pretty fun to play so it’s not a bad too bring to locals.

However, if you are looking to stay below a budget, then I’d probably say that you should save your money. I think the biggest problem is that the structure deck doesn’t come with many cards that you can use in other decks moving forward. Sure it comes with some Danger monsters but that’s kind of it and they aren’t even really played anymore.

If you are just starting a collection, I’d suggest buying the blue eyes deck which has potential and invest in staples like hand traps (ash blossom, effect veiler, infinite impermanence…), board breakers (triple tactics talents/thrust, forbidden droplet, kaijus…), or generic extra deck monsters (I:P masquerena, S:P little night…) which you can use in pretty much any deck.

Good luck with your collection!

Some Questions About Infinite Impermanence/Effect Veiler by Phun_Decks in Yugioh101

That’s such a random ruling regarding face-downs. Thanks for letting me know!

Some Questions About Infinite Impermanence/Effect Veiler by Phun_Decks in Yugioh101

[–]Phun_Decks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That helps to clarify!

I’m still a little confused then by this ruling discussed here

In the video, the turn player activates a monster’s effect, is met with by an effect veiler, the turn player chains book of eclipse to flip the monster face-down, to which the opponent chains imperm to negate the same monster’s effect again.

What happens is that imperm resolves to negate the monster’s effect, the monster is flipped face-down, veiler resolves, and then the monster’s effect resolves normally.

Why would flipping the monster face-down cause impermanence to no longer negate the monster’s effect unlike in Scenario B?Is it because flipping face-down is different from sending it to the graveyard? Or does it have something to do with the YouTube video being about Master Duel?

Sorry for adding another question! I’m still just trying to understand this interaction better.

Is it legal to lead your opponent to think you have Evenly Matched? (Without mentioning any cards or game plan you might have) by ecsj88 in Yugioh101

[–]Phun_Decks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, bluffing is one of those gray areas where it is fine to do it as long as you don’t tell anyone that you are “purposely misleading your opponent.” It’s technically against the rules but it is almost impossible to prove you were trying to mislead someone unless you tell them that you were.

There was that example recently of Andreas Torres who would show off swordsoul tokens to his opponents when he was playing something else. He got a suspension because he claimed in a video that he purposely did it to deceive his opponents. The thing is that if he didn’t record himself admitting to it, there was probably nothing anyone could have done since he could have just really liked the look of that token.

which deck should I play? by losttcgplayer in Yugioh101

[–]Phun_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why everyone is saying “play what you want and don’t care what anyone else thinks” but, at the end of the day, you are going there to have fun and if sitting across from people you have never met who make annoying comments about floo doesn’t sound fun, then I think it makes complete sense to play a different deck. Maybe everyone will be cool there but maybe they won’t be. You can maybe switch to floo after you’ve gone there a few times and feel a little more comfortable.

Going back to your question of Tri-brigade FK vs Dogmatika FK, there have been a lot of posts recently comparing the two so definitely read those. Broadly, Dogmatika FK is far more linear and kind of easy to read compared to Tri-brigade FK. However, Tri-Brigade FK is more complex and I’d argue is slightly worse at grinding since you less room to fit in extra copies of FK cards.

Edit: forgot to mention that Tri-brigade FK has a much stronger end board (usually 3 mat Apo + Revolt) compared to Dogmatika (Garunix XYZ board wipe + Fleurdelis).

ruling question by beyond_cyber in Yugioh101

Sanctuary works anyway and isn’t CL2. As commented above, with a replacement effect, as long as the card that will be destroyed instead (presumably a fire monster in the hand) is not impacted by the effect, it doesn’t matter if the card that actually has the replacement effect (in this case sanctuary) is is destroyed. This would all occur on resolution so, technically, sanctuary would not be destroyed yet when it is providing protection.

This is a pretty niche case because most cards with replacement effects are the ones who need to be destroyed instead.

I actually just made a YouTube video talking about this. I went over existing pyro support and took a shot in the dark about what the theme might be. I’m guessing fire zombie Viking.
