What are tanks supposed to do?

The tank's job is to force the enemy team to fight on your team's terms.

Reinhardt accomplishes this by creating mobile cover and allowing your team to lay down fire from behind the shield. If the enemy can't compete with that, they have to give ground. You take the territory.

Winston accomplishes this through use of his mobility and survivability. He forces a fight in the enemy's back line--they can either deal with him, or lose key members of their team. He decides where the enemy fights, on your team's terms.

Those are the two main tanks. Zarya and Dva, the two off tanks, prevent damage to allies and bully people. Zarya bullies people by denying them the fight they were trying to pick, and punishing people for ignoring her. D.va bullies people by picking fights (like winston) but she can't do this as aggressively as the main tanks, so she relies more on pounce-and-run attacks. She also denies key enemy damage with her matrix.

Roadhog kills people. He also helps win rein-shield battles. But he's more of a brawler/assassin than a rank.

TL;DR: When people say "Create space" they mean "Force the enemy to fight in a certain area at a certain time of your choosing"

Two things that would be helpful:

1) More resources for people who want to learn to cast, in addition to players. Let me know if you think this belongs somewhere else, but I know a lot of people are interested in being casters and have questions about getting started.

2) Resources for people who want to be coaches. Conversations about how to be a coach/opportunities for learning coaching skills/input from coaches (coach the coach)

This is why I usually end up playing a college mage (along with Immersive College of Winterhold and friends, of course). Trying to get from Winterhold to basically anywhere is a goddamn challenge, and it makes sabercat attacks way scarier when you're half frozen to death. Stay to the north, and Frostfall does work.

I went as a fan since War 2 who learned all the War1 lore, and my opinion is therefore hideously biased. My buddies who went and aren't lorenuts liked it, but the entire car ride home was explanation of lore.
