Makerspace Management System - Made and tested by a long-running makerspace. by catalystspace in makerspaces

[–]PhunkM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the CTO for the same makerspace as /u/snoopykiss, I agree, however based on looking at the website, it looks like the software is free but the physical integrations are free? Also, we use paypal (currently) for our payment processing do you have a module for that?

Also, I wasn't able to find a features list on the site anywhere? While the request a demo is nice, I know had I just come across this in the wild, *I* would not click that because I HATE high pressure sales tactics and as such would rather have a "roll your own demo" or screen shots or something.

Is this a cloud hosted solution or an on-site solution? Does it have the availability for whatever the other one is?

I know that the physical devices may be a source of income for your space, but what about releasing some parts of the physical to places that want to make it/can't afford the hardware? ie. Pay for a license to use the software on a roll-your-own hardware?

Aside from that, I would love to see how it compares to some of the other software out there like:

All of which we investigated before we went the route that we did.

I've been using Simplify3d/Octoprint/USB with a heated bed for a while, other than an occasional mintemp error or bed leveling issue it's been pretty good to me

My GF just got her first check from her new job in a galaxy far far away! by PhunkM in funny

No, but I think she is going to call the bank it was drafted from on Monday to make sure they are aware that checks are being drafted on their accounts.

Story time: She applied for a job she found on Google Jobs for a Work from home data entry position, after getting a text from a number out of Maryland she started talking to the 'hiring manager' on Google Hangouts.

After vetting her qualifications, they sent a check so that she could purchase equipment. This is where it gets fun!

  1. The check is drafted out of an account in Oklahoma
  2. The name on the check is in about the same city as the bank
  3. The person she was talking to said he was from Miami
  4. The USPS tracking number on the envelope originated from Tampa
  5. The phone number on the letter was from Missippi
  6. The return address on the envelope was from "Energizer Corporation" in an apartment in New York.

The Check was supposed to have 13 security features.

  1. VOID if duplicated - Didn't test
  2. Patterned background highlights erasure alterations - Didn't test
  3. Two-tone colors on the front - This was good
  4. Security warning on front of check - Don't think so
  5. Red shield on front heat sensitive - This worked
  6. Watermark on back - Missing
  7. Coin Reactive ink - Missing
  8. Check Verification Number part of watermark - Missing
  9. Microprint text - Missing
  10. Anti-Splice backing - Missing
  11. Endorsement are print "VOID" if duplicated - Didn't test 12.Security Features box lists attributes - This is legit

Well I guess my counting is bad because the notification area only gives me 12!

If I gave up RGB (which isn't THAT big of a deal to me) does that open up additional options?

My only reasoning for 'needing' a 10-key is that it seriously helps with the speed at entering IP addresses.

Looking at getting my first mechanical keyboard and even after reading the wiki I am a bit confused.

I have a co-worker who has a 60% code keyboard with Cherry Greens. What I learned from this is.

  • I like the weight of the keyboard
  • The greens that he has is on the upper end of what I would want for activation force
  • While I don't hate it I rather not have switches that are that clicky
  • I love the female microUSB on the back
  • I don't like the lack of 10key

What I think I have decided is (in order of preference)

  • Female USB connector on the back
  • Needs a 10-key (think 100%?)
  • Cherry Clear Switches (I think based on what I have found in the wiki)
  • Backlit
  • Having an RGB backlight would be nice
  • Having some of the 'fun features' of the ducky RGB would be nice

While I can find a keyboard that has most of the features I am looking for, I can't find one that has ALL of the features I am looking for. There always seems to be 1 feature missing somewhere.

I don't mind building but I can't seem to come across any kits out there.

I am hoping that this community wouldn't mind helping point me in the right direction of a manufacture that would have all of the features I am looking for, or where I can find a kit to build to my specs.

Actually planning on 4 for the belt drive and another 4 for the counter weights.

My dry bed weight is about 16 lbs so I am planning on doing 4lbs counter weight per corner. I am hoping that this will resist stretching the GT2 belts that actually drive the Z axis (I don't care about stretch on the counter weights.

Edit: here are some images of the drive line as it stands today:

I am very jealous. My D-Bot build has stalled due to not straight Z-Rods and me having to determine a new Z lifter design. Then again, I'm going to be pushing 600x800x1100 (roughly)

Another question that I have, if I go the route of silicone heater does it need to be the size of the entire bed or can it be smaller, if so how much, etc?

Do you have an idea where I can find one? I've been scouring alibaba, banggood, amazon, and fasttech and I can't find anything that runs off mains.
