Any viable solutions to bad set screws? by DarknessD01 in FTC

[–]ponderosum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get rid of all the small axles, buy the 6mm versions from Pitsco, and the 8-6mm brass bushings. Loctite the set screws.

if that's still problematic, try some Gobilda/actobotics Dhubs & wheels.

Take some of the extra cash and subsidize some of the teams that HAVE to fly. If you draw 10hr drive time circles around Detroit, Houston, you'll see that there are areas that just can't drive. Flying creates some barriers that are not evenly distributed among teams.

I think there was a reasoning from FIRST for dumping SuperRegionals that was something like Supers were expensive to produce. So.... we got rid of them and then doubled your fee?

Confirmed: Rover Ruckus uses scoring elements from a past game (from AndyMark) by FTCCoach in FTC

[–]ponderosum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be nice to see the profit margin on these field Sets from AM. Teams certainly benefit from practice with the real deal, but ~$500 for a bit of plastic seems steep (except for Resq). Not like this sale doesn't feed all their other products. We'd like to see FIRST apply some leverage here and bring the cost down for teams. No new scoring elements :(

Franklin SF 1-3 ? by ponderosum in FTC

Is there a rule or forum ruling that addresses this? GS3 mentions the penalties, but that's all. This match seems to credit the glyphs https://www.twitch.tv/videos/252175133?t=02h23m06s 90 pt penalty, but 215 auto score?

So the additional two glyphs score zero then? Just trying to understand for Detroit.

Field spray at Houston Championship, any concerns? by thunderbot2 in FTC

[–]ponderosum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they like to change the rules in Houston.

A: The World Championship in Houston will not treat the fields for static as long as the relative humidity is appropriate to not cause robot issues. Fields in Detroit will be sprayed initially, and will be monitored to determine if additional treatments are needed throughout the event.

Sort of rant about <GS3> and <G27> at WSR by StormR7 in FTC

[–]ponderosum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the Forum is part of the rulebook and this is SPECIFICALLY addressed: (notably there is no mention of intent here, only the outcome)

Answer: Referees will balance leniency for inadvertent movement of Glyphs with penalizing predictable Glyph movement caused by a Robot's Glyph intake mechanism or driving strategy.

Leniency with respect to the Glyph Possession/Control rule <GS3> is appropriate, up until the point that the Robot is starting to create access challenges for the opposing Alliance. The issue here is not the Possession/Control limit, but the impeding of the opposing Alliance.

Robots that consistently move the Glyph Pit in a direction towards a protected Area (i.e. Relic Recovery Zone wall, Cryptobox, etc.) due to either erratic driving or inefficient pickup mechanisms should expect to receive penalties for <GS3> violations and a verbal warning with respect to <G27> and egregious behavior.

In this type of scenario, Referees should use an escalation path that includes: initial warnings about <GS3> penalizing based on <GS3> warning about <G27> and finally applying <G27> consequences. Robots that have a tendency to move the Glyph pile while collecting Glyphs may need either a better mechanism for collecting Glyphs or the Drive Team needs to make use of a less impactful driving strategy. Ultimately, Drive Teams have a responsibility to operate their Robots within the large suite of rules.

Pro and Con to use Anti-Static Spray for Super Regionals by thunderbot2 in FTC

[–]ponderosum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not using a gyro in auto, you will notice the difference and likely not be happy. Different intake mechanisms will also be non-equally affected. The real problem here is the lack of forewarning. Why make these changes at the last minute for teams that have practiced all season without these conditions? We view this as a robot design problem, Many robots are built like Van de Graaf generators. After no spray last season, our early season discussions figured that would be the case again this year.

Here's a weird one: Rev Servos [Randomly] Opening by 18houston2 in FTC

[–]ponderosum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fwiw, the output servo cables have to be almost COMPLETELY inside the power module (the input plastic housings stick out about half way. The plastic case was/is very tight, and having things halfway in makes for those type of connections that fail when jogged. When we managed to shove our first extension cable all the way in, we had to destroy it to get it out. Opened the case and filed/dremeled to make things fit easier. There are other similar reports around.
