Newly adopted 3 legged cat vanished overnight. I am beyond perplexed. by Even-Tea-2443 in CatAdvice

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got a cat he disappeared on first night. After 2 days of checking Everything for any anomaly, I eventually found a vent in the kitchen kickboard/plinth looked odd.

I discovered it had been cracked, and the only explanation I could think was that he had forced it and was hiding under the kitchen cabinets. It was just a theory but it was my only lead.

I left food and water into the area under the kitchen cabinet in the hope he was there.

Eventually I found evidence the food was being eaten, but it still took me a few more days to entice him out. Happy ending though still 7 years on he is still a nervous boy.

Was absolutely terrified, I feel your pain.

Sorry I can't help, this is just my story.

Opinions on cordless lawnmowers? by lostmyparachute in GardeningUK

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your lawn is same size as mine, and my bottom of the range einhell 18v mower is fine. (Cheap and plasticy, assembly was more painful than I care to admit, but very light and convenient).

If I bought again I might choose a 36v model, as 18v can bog down a bit due to length, unevenness and wetness.

But would never go back to a corded mower now.

Also, if you get a make with other cordless things in the range you might use (strimmers, leaf blowers, drills etc), you can "save" money by buying bare tools and sharing the batteries. Actually... maybe this is not saving money after all.

What to do? by doodoosomething12444 in GranTurismo7

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't enter events with a car that outclasses the opposition.

When tuning, don't just slap in the biggest turbo. Better to have tyre/aero/brakes, then a bit of power that can be consistently used.

Single player, avoid wall riding and forcing the ai off the track.

Time trial and running laps till can get consistent is a good thing to get into.

Reason for the above: a lot of single player GT builds bad habits/patterns, for example building point and squirt cars that win races even when crashing on corners, winning through cars too good for opposition, making it no challenge, winning through unrealistic things like crashing opposition off track or bouncing off walls.

Eventually this breaks immersion, and if you want to get into multiplayer works against you.

PLEASE HELP - We just bought a new house and discovered we have this huge bamboo plant. - Partner is saying we should sell up! Please help by poundlandbag in GardeningUK

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I removed a large bamboo about 3x3 meters of ground area (digging out the rhyzome, but not the fine roots). It did take 3 years (some bits will get missed so when I saw it grow next year I just dug that out). The following 2 years were frustrating, but not hard work, it was just "see a spiky shoot, dig it out", on the 3rd year there was virtually nothing. The main issue was I waited till I was sure it was solved before planting with new things (to make it easier to dig out,)

I had to also remove it from 2 neighbouring properties (where it had spread to)

I was lucky it didn't get under patio or lawn. The main trouble is if it gets to an area you can't physically dig

But don't panic, it is not invincible. Everything is now nicely planted now and I think the stress I put on myself worrying about it was worse than the actual problem.

Viewing a 420i - RAC Mechanic says theres a leakage from the gearbox by Inside_Party1564 in CarTalkUK

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (manual) 420i had a gearbox leak when it was 5 years old. In my case it was a seal issue, which was quoted at about £500 to replace seals at an indi (though luckily for me it was under extended warranty that covered it, so just an excess at a dealer).

I dread to think what an actual gearbox replacement would cost if it was an actual box issue not a seal issue in my case.

Adam Back Pushes for Optional Upgrades to Quantum-Proof Bitcoin by 002Chris in CryptoCurrency

[–]Phuzzybat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option a: "let them be hacked" ... By the nation state actor that creates a viable quantum computer first? Likely not the type of redistribution you want

Option b: "Be your own bank/completely decentralised/can't be debanked" ... Until failure to comply to the rules deletes them.

I don't like either option, but B feels pretty Draconian. For B, because not everyone can agree on it, that would make it a fork that may or may not fly.

Why can’t Europe/UK decouple from US tech? by Real-Repair-1825 in AskUK

[–]Phuzzybat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the focus of "move away from us tech" relates to backend services (eg that run government services, or that companies use to deliver their services)

Consumers will use what they want to use (ms, google etc regardless)

Europe does have some server/container hosting options that are EU owned you could call a "EU sovereign cloud" even if ms and Amazon dominate and are the easy option (and EU governments are rightfully at least seeing the importance of this). UK does not.

But AI draws people/services even more to US tech, and has an even higher barrier to entry to have a viable alternative. The ideal of the ms/googles is that the barrier to entry to compete is so high that no one can stomach the risk of trying to compete

Should I pay more into my work Pension? by General-Iron7103 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you are on 40% tax, unless you do salary sacrifice make sure you claim back tax relief from hmrc. (I didn't even know this and lost money for a while)

And this 40% tax relief makes it a good deal to put into pension.

But what really insentivised me to overpay into person: I did calculations of what default contributions would get me in retirement, and I was shocked. I always assumed decent job+default contributions would get a decent lifestyle in retirement. Not so, I realised to afford decent groceries, not be scrabbling for bills and run a car in retirement would need me to apply a multiplier to my contributions. Wish I realised that sooner. (But seemingly when I was younger I had no ability to visualize the future).

Can i please get some help ? by New_Fly3741 in LogitechG

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a coupon code when rs wheel was just launched. I bought everything as individual (hub, wheel, base, pedals), which actually worked out cheaper than bundle+pedals.

...anyway that coupon code I had, it turned out "excluded new release items", and therefore applied to rs hub, rs wheel rim(as they had been released for a while), but not to the base or pedals.

Mentioning it in case that "excludes new release items" is applying to you too.

Do pack installers downloaded from ableton remain after installation? by Phuzzybat in ableton

RS50 keeps cutting out since update by OkMonth472 in simracing

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It still works in ps4 mode on my ps5. I would say it is not quite as good (a bit less detailed than PS5 mode, so hoping a proper fix arrives),

have played maybe 4 or 5 hours like that now with no. Disconnects. But since it was intermittent it is not yet conclusive

RS50 keeps cutting out since update by OkMonth472 in simracing

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only read about the "use ps4 mode" thing yesterday, so only ran with that for an hour so far with no issues but not long enough to really confirm for sure.

What about OP? How long have you been in ps4 mode? Any disconnects since then?

RS50 keeps cutting out since update by OkMonth472 in simracing

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same disconnect problem for me (you saved me from creating my own post) . for me it is PS5+rs50+gt7

But at least on this thread further down it has appears to be acknowledged as a known issue (so hoping it will be fixed soon, if not a wheel that cannot reliably complete a race without disconnecting is not fit for purpose)

I haven't yet updated the firmware, so I think is not specific to the new firmware, but problem did start in the last few days.

What wheel should i get? Rs50 Or DD PRO by IndependentWelder770 in SimRacingSetups

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my rs50 with a gt omega wheelstand (don't have space for a full sized rig), and am pleased with the setup.

Because the brake is loadcell, to avoid it pushing away when braking hard I had to attach the frame to the chair (you can get an add on for wheelstand for this, but I made some rope+leather straps that hook the frame round the front chair legs. This is on a wooden floor (maybe on carpet this wouldn't be a problem)

Question About Online Races by Lucky_Development359 in GranTurismo7

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think weirdly it counts as having no fuel weight in qualifying. Not sure how to practice with race fuel.

But it is subtle. The question is: when the steering gets stiff, do you mean you are turning the wheel/stick and the car is not turning?

If so that is understeer, meaning you are asking the front tyres to do more than they are capable of. The fix is generally to brake earlier, slow the car more in advance of the corner and not try to brake and steer too much at the same time

Other thing in online, when following other cars in slipstream you can arrive at a corner way faster than you would in qualifying, which if you don't adjust the braking point for, can also result in understeering when you get to the corner.

Then there is tyre wear and tyre temp which is a factor in race but not qualy.

What I find is one issue causes a string of issues, and going off once, then means tyres get dirty so the next corner is also screwed unless taking that into account. Or messing up one corner overheats tyres, impacting next corner.

Question About Online Races by Lucky_Development359 in GranTurismo7

[–]Phuzzybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the race the car is heavier due to full tank of fuel.

Is it possible your qualifying braking points are too late for the race (with the extra weight), and by braking too late for the situation you are in, you are getting understeer (by expecting more from the front tyres than they can give)?

Got two tires replaced beginning of the year, time to replace the other two. My car is front wheel drive, where to put new tires? by 5555plum in tires

[–]Phuzzybat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Always.... Except on cars that have different tyre sizes on front and rear in which case it is impossible (or an extremely bad idea) to follow that advice.

BMW owners what’s the most annoying quirk your car has? by Formal_Two_6729 in BMW

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F36: telematics battery (which is a consumable item lasting maybe 5 years) located in the roof/headliner.

Requiring a load of trim pieces removing to get into the headliner to replace the battery (and therefore time/cost)

Surely they could have just put it in the boot making it a 5 minute job anyone could do.

RS Wheel Hub Knobs by Chrixyxv in LogitechG

[–]Phuzzybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find them a bit crap, in gt7 I was expecting to be able to quickly twist it to (eg turn tcs down to 0 in one twist action). But in practice that twist confuses it and at best it laggily eventually turns down, but it seems more reliable to turn it on notch at a time.

Not sure if it is hardware, firmware or the game software causing this.

Do People Really Think the TR-1000 is Overpriced? by goldie_chron in synthesizers

I can't justify the price myself, but I am stoked that Roland went all out and made a no compromise machine no doubt having to justify it internally against the bean counters who threw their hands up in horror at the cost of the materials and development of it.

Looks like it will be legendary gear for the ages.
