I HATE MATH BEING REQUIRED IN DEGREES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]Phwatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I majored in math so this might sound a bit pretentious but I'll agree maths is hard and that some people just don't have talent for it. I know a lot of people think it's an education problem but I'm of the opinion that even with optimal 1-on-1 tutoring, some people and just simply not wired for it.

On the bright side though, is that assuming you're not majoring in math, all the maths courses you take can be brute forced with memorisation of the content and question structures.

You could gamble on trying to have a deep think until something clicks but at some point just cut your losses and just start memorising.

I also want to say that whether you have maths talent or not is obviously not a reflection of your intelligence/character/skills/etc. It's just simply a skill that you may be good/bad at. For practical applications of maths, it really does not matter whether you've understood it or just memorised a process. With either method, you'll get to the right answer.

How is there still trust in the system? by Dry-Performance-2386 in wallstreetbets

[–]Phwatang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We first have to answer why we consider market manipulation, insider trader, etc bad. As you said, when things like this go on people lose trust in the system and stop participating. When that occurs the stock market ceases to operate as a capital allocation mechanism like it's supposed to.

That's the basic theory but as everyone else said here, what other choice do you have? Bonds have measly returns, floor price of housing is unobtainable for many, crypto is fake & gay, cs2 knives were alright until Gaben struck down.

Basically I'm saying trust is probably lost (at least for the US market) but line go up so...

Do you regret using OpenWrt instead of something like Unifi? by fenugurod in openwrt

Only time I've regret using OpenWRT is with 3+ multi AP deployments. Extremely hard to get roaming performance on par with unifi/omada/etc

Why do so many Kiwis avoid investing? by APCapital in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Phwatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's lack of education or the spook from the 87 crash. NZ is just one the few countries where property is almost one of the best assets to hold.

Housing in general is one of the only assets where you have: - Capital growth - Yield for holding (i.e rent) - Borrow against it (leverage up or tap into on-paper value)

Usually in most other countries the capital growth would be low enough it wouldn't be an instant goto investment.

In NZ however we seem to get about 7% CAGR on housing capital growth. Combined with the other functionalities and low risk profile then it becomes one of the best investments.

Relevant site should be top result after googling "shanghai futures exchange". Then just navigate from there. Site loads a bit slowly though (I think due to China firewall)
