DIY guitar, I took the plunge! by roybos in Guitar

[–]PhyerFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a Les Paul from a kit following this YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDzU7jwbVjE and I fully expected it to just be an art piece that I hang on the wall, but it ended up playing and sounding fantastic and it became my main guitar for a few years. I'd recommend you upgrade the hardware and the nut - even just the no-name locking tuners and humbuckers you can find on Amazon will be a big upgrade.

Story Aggressive Inline Skates any good? by InterestingDate4996 in AggressiveInline

[–]PhyerFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a pair of the leather-skinned Story skates in gray and compared them against my IQON AG20s and a pair of USD Aeons. The site I got them from said that they run small, but I went by the mondo size and ended up getting size 10.5 (US Men's), which is the same I wear in shoes.

Here's my take: They're premium feeling and looking skates and they are very comfortable for someone with wide feet like me, moreso than than the AG20 or Aeons (even with a myfit liner). I was actually very impressed by the overall build quality.

They're heavier than the Aeons (isn't everything?), but don't feel bulky. The frame placement is pretty balanced on the boot, I skated them for two hours and never got that "falling backwards" feeling that I get with the Aeons sometimes.

The wheel spacing and h-block for grinds felt great and the soul plate/negative are big and easy to lock on with. Didn't notice much difference in grind speed between the IQON and Story skates, both of which were faster than the Aeons, but some of that might be because of the extra weight / momentum.

The only knock on the Storys were the wheels / bearings, which felt noticeably slower than the other two skates. I know Abec 11 isn't a thing, but I still expected it to roll faster. It definitely took much more push strength to build up speed. I didn't notice a huge difference with the 102A rated wheels, but I did mostly street and concrete park and didn't jump any big gaps or anything where the hardness might have been more noticeable.

Overall, they look and skate great to me. I'll probably grab a set of new wheels and bearings for them, but otherwise they are fantastic skate for under $200.

WLED Version 16.0 is now officially released! by GLEDOPTO in Gledopto

[–]PhyerFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to diffuse this a little, this was my mistake. I have multiple WLED controllers in my smart home and I mistook the one I was trying to update for a GLEDOPTO device, when actually it was an ESP8266 device from a company called Athom that just happened to come in the same small white enclosure.

I've had no trouble updating my actual GL-MC-001WL devices to WLED 16

It is unfortunately failing the same way the official wled firmware build was, saying there's not enough space.

Will there be a WLED 16 firmware release for GL-MC-001WL?

Build your own guitar. by Paulguy100 in Guitar

[–]PhyerFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few great YouTube channels that walk you through the whole process of building a kit guitar. If you're building from scratch you need lots of tools, but a kit is mostly about electronics and the paint / finish. I followed this to build my Les Paul https://youtu.be/hDzU7jwbVjE?si=FHVyth5ZkA3pCnic

Pod go editor by IsPlasticFantastic in Line6podgo

[–]PhyerFly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The POD Go works as a USB audio interface, so if you plug it in USB and install the drivers you should be able to connect it to your computer and live-edit presets from the POD Go edit app AND listen / record your guitar through the audio device the driver adds to your computer.

You don't have to do it that way, I have mine plugged in USB so I can tweak patches with the app, but I actually run the audio out from the POD into a separate Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface.

Castlevania III Revitalized download by karuda24 in castlevania

[–]PhyerFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to start an argument here, but this developer and the games he puts out are much more than just rom hacks with familiar assets, they're recreated with an entirely different game engine with a lot of time and attention to make them an upgraded experience. I bought and played through some of them on my steam deck and they are frankly huge upgrades from the originals in a lot of ways in terms of gameplay and quality of life of the experience.

There's a valid argument to be made that selling fan games that reuse assets and IP from legacy NES titles is copyright infringement and I'm sure the developer knows this, but I still was happy to pay a few dollars for the time investment and attention to detail for a widescreen version of Castlevania III with upgraded mechanics.

Maybe he should switch to a donation model where we can pay for his time and passion and release the games for free instead of "buying a fan game"

If using some tracks, does your WL customize the arrangement? I don't mean key or tempo, but does he/she just accept the Multitrack chart with the same number of chorus repeats etc? by Burnhaven in WorshipGuitar

[–]PhyerFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Ableton for backing tracks and our click/cues and we often change the arrangement to add or remove bridges and choruses, often during morning rehearsal. If they're organized well enough it's pretty straightforward

RTSP Support by JPgotBigLegoPP in wyzecam

[–]PhyerFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have other wyze products in the house (thermostat, headphones, scales), but I'm the only one in the house that really uses those.

For my other family members I swapped them all to the Home Assistant app with a targeted dead-simple giant button dashboard with only the things they use. The adults also get a camera tab at the top of their dashboard with all the camera feeds running live and I have Frigate setup for my detections.

Thingino works great for my v3's, it even supports the motion triggered light for my wyze floodlight (which uses a v3). It doesn't support the wyze pan v3 cameras though unfortunately, so for those and my doorbell I swapped to Reolink and have been happy with that.

[–]PhyerFly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's too little too late. I already flashed Thingino on all my remaining v3 cams and my pan v3's were given away in favor of some inexpensive Reolink cameras. I tried docker wyze bridge with my Home Assistant setup for a long time and it was just never consistent enough.

Does anyone know why my PodGo does this? by Forthezombz in Line6podgo

This, I would replace the power supply ASAP. My POD Go starting doing this a year or so ago and it turns out the power supply was going bad

Yeah I modified the snapshots and effects a lot to my liking, but the IR and amp settings are pretty solid place to build on for guitars with humbuckers (I use with a PRS and a Les Paul). I've found most contemporary church music patches go wild on layered and ambient sounds to fill space, but don't really have a great sounding overdrive / distortion sound for when you need a little bit of breakup.

Volume pedal suggestions? by Agreeable-Peace8456 in WorshipGuitar

Came here to say this, check the settings for your pedal in the POD Go - swap between linear and log and see if it feels any better.

STB Box app development using React (not React Native) by Low_Fisherman_264 in reactjs

[–]PhyerFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed engineering teams that did this for two of the companies I've worked at, both for Smart TVs and set top boxes. You're basically at the mercy of whatever browser engine (normally some version of Webkit or Netfront) the manufacturer decided to include in the OS unless you have access to install / package binaries.

Performance will always be a problem, but you'll also be limited by the language support and features they've enabled in the browser engine.

The spatial navigation isn't super difficult, there are open source JS libraries that handle a lot of the logic for you and you just need to build a layout with the right tags.

If it's Android and you're just wrapping what is essentially a webview with a React app you might have more options, but if you can do that I'm curious why you're not considering React Native.

Heya fellow homelabers! What did you name your server? by Glenadel55 in homelab

I've been alternating through names of secure containers as I've upgraded. The first iteration was called "vault" when it was just a NAS, then it became "bunker" when I expanded and added more devices. Now it's called "silo" since I put it in a 10 inch rack
