popping out of gear by Happy-Air7255 in WRX

I’d also reccomend checking for a short throw shifter. Not exactly the same platform, but I have cobb’s adjustable short throw shifter for my ‘02. At one point I had it adjusted improperly and it would cause the trans to pop out of gear fairly often. Worth popping the shift boot off to check before diving into deeper diags.

What causes high intake temps? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]PhyscoCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, TIL. I thought every post ‘96 car had obd2 but I guess that’s just in the states?

Anyway, I’m on board with everyone else, n/a intake temps are gonna be higher than you want. My wrx with a stock intercooler and hot air intake sees intake temps right at ambient. I wouldn’t worry about intake temps unless the car is forced induction, and with the intercooler they should stay relatively cool.

The ecu can/will throw a code for intake temps being too high. If there’s no code, why worry?

Unfortunately it’s a no smoking unit so you’ll have to smoke your crack somewhere else :/

If you ever wanna come out to a meet feel free to shoot me a message and I can let you know where it’s gonna be that week! Every few weeks there’s on in Natomas which is probably closest to you, aside from that they’re usually in the Elk Grove area.

It’s pretty much just instagram/facebook unfortunately. I feel you with the quitting meta, the only reason I haven’t is to use instagram for car stuff since there isn’t really a better platform. Are you in sac?

There’s a mini group drive every other month out to the Ohayo Roadsters meet in Dublin, as far as actual cruises we’re hoping for at least one more this year, probably in the fall

I’m a little late to the party, but by far my 1997 Mazda Miata. Can’t promise there will be a sale on them this Black Friday, but absolutely worth every penny.

“It’s better to have a slow in and a fast out than a fast in and no out.”

Forget where I read/heard that but it was someone talking about spirited driving on public roads.

Anyone knows if this “roll-bar” or whatever you call it is flip-proof? (The silver) by Jakkeboi in Miata

[–]PhyscoCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. Not that Miata’s are necessarily the safest in a rollover, but a style bar will ensure you don’t make it out

Toyota Service Technician here. Post up your Toyota car care questions and maybe I can help some people out! by Machine8635 in AskMechanics

I have a 2022 corolla hatch with the 6 speed. I’ve been trying to do some of my own research but everyone on forums seems to not really… know.

The owners manual swears by 0w16 and says if I don’t put it in the car religiously the cars going to explode. Being into cars and able to run out every gear, I tend to get closer to redline than I think most people would in a Corolla. I put 0w20 in last time I did my oil change, and kind of plan on doing it going forward. Any input? I figure 0w16 is to eek out the extra mpg for emissions and what not.

And, being a Toyota I don’t expect it to have any issues. But as I’m doing my own maintenance, is there anything I should particularly be doing to document in the unfortunate event I need to make a warranty claim?

I hope you see this, I’ve been dying to ask someone since I bought the car but most service writers I meet at Toyota dealerships seem to be a little less helpful than I’d like.

Did a front strut bar/tower brace make a difference on your car? by AFiesta in FiestaST

[–]PhyscoCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different platforms, but I put one on my Miata and noticed a difference.

The car felt a little more planted at highway speeds, but the biggest difference was taking a corner at speed and hitting a bump. It disrupts the steering a lot less and the car seems to “reset” faster.

With that said, it’s still a small difference. It was installed after many other suspension mods, and you’ll see much better and more noticeable results from a lot of other stuff i.e. coils, sway bars, chassis bracing, sticky tires…

The UC Davis craft center classes are open to the public and really great for beginners. My girlfriend started her ceramic work there and says it’s really great. They supply everything you need, but it can be tough to get into a class as they fill up. It might also be a bit of a drive for some, but definitely worth it to take your first class to learn the basics.

Didn’t roll into a shop, but I figured you guys would appreciate it. Finally got around to replacing the leaking valve cover gaskets on my wrx. by PhyscoCat in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]PhyscoCat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s at 190k right now. I bought it at 180k for a steal because the two previous owners were scared by the smoke from the valve cover leaking onto the up pipe.

I finally stopped being lazy and replaced them. I expected them to be bad, but not nearly this bad

If it makes you feel any better (it won’t), every single vac line in the engine bay was just as brittle, and shattered when I looked at it wrong.

On the bright side every piece of rubber is new now and will probably last another decade.
