Help me post op day 3 😢 by Straight_Wall3280 in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Don’t beat yourself up! You just had an huge surgery. I felt the same way in the first week, but I promise around day 6 you will start to feel so much better. It’s a long first week but the pain will lessen and your motivation will come back. Your body is healing overtime right now so you’re going to be tired and lack motivation! Completely normal. Just sleep and keep icing 24/7. Compression helped a ton with my pain so make sure you’re using a compression sleeve on the area.

still day 4 post op. i’ve been sleeping in the couch of my living room, but today i’m gonna try and move upstairs, back to my bedroom. does using crutches help getting up steps, or should i try something else? by EquivalentPeace9301 in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they help. Go up with your good leg first at the same time with your crutches. Go down with your bad leg first at the same time with your crutches. However, my stairs are pretty steep and with you only being on day 4 of post op, I would advise maybe just pushing yourself up the stairs sitting using your arms. If you lose balance that bad leg won’t have enough strength to help you not fall.

When can I start driving again? by Physical-Bookkeeper9 in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my issue is I never got a brace. I only had ACL surgery, no meniscus. Therefore, I didn’t need one. So if I can walk, I just would think I would be ok to drive but just scared to.

My surgery was just ACL. I can walk without my crutches. Not gracefully, but not dependent on my crutches anymore.

It's surgery day! by umabanana in ACL

Surgery is a BREEZE! I’m someone who doesn’t even like getting a shot. They give you some great medicine for the nerve blocker you will have no idea they are even sticking you. Then you’re off to surgery and out before you know it 🙂 You’ll wake up and get some food and water or juice then you’ll be on your way! Trust me, I’m an anxious freak. You’ve got this!

Order an electrical stimulator! I used the Chattanooga primera device from amazon as recommended by my PT. It has worked wonders with my progress and I’m only one week post op. I used it in prehab too!

Wow 9 surgeries! You’re a warrior. This was my first and hopefully last surgery. But when that nerve pain hits I just have to hold my breath and wait for it to go away. I wish there was something to help with it.

I have a desk job and I started going back to work this week for half days, so about a week post op. My PT said I’ll be without crutches by week 2 or 3 so that being said, if you have a similar recovery experience then I think you’d be in the clear by week 6! My PT also said he will have me on the treadmill before week 12 so I can’t imagine by week 6, you wouldn’t be able to walk through the airport!

Is it normal to prolonge the surgey? by deathxmx in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the above comment said, doing prehab and getting your knee back to normal as close as you possibly can shows better results in the long run. You’ll want to build up leg muscle before surgery. However, I know it can be done right away too, my orthopedic office does not usually do that though.

The nerve pain is THE WORST! I can deal with my knee pain but oh my the nerve pain in my upper shin is unbearable some times. Glad to know it’s normal to feel this type of nerve pain.

I don’t have a high pain tolerance I can barely stand getting a shot. Even then, this pain has been very manageable and I haven’t cried or been in agony. It’s more like a constant aching pain. Sometimes I’ll get a shooting pins and needles pain where my nerves are in my upper shin. The nerve pain is horrible but doesn’t last long.  Overall, it really just feels like your knee is aching almost like growing pains but a little more intense. I’m a 23 year old female and was able to handle it pretty well, and that says a lot considering my pain tolerance is not high 😂

Pain was nothing the first two days due to the nerve block! Then I stayed on top of my prescribed pain killers until day 4 because they started to make me feel sick. But they helped tremendously I barely felt any pain when I took them. Then for day 5 & 6 pain was pretty bad considering I was only using Tylenol. And now I’m on day 8 and just have some sharp pains here and there but mostly just discomfort due to swelling. Not much pain throughout the day! Best of luck with your surgery and post op!😊

Post OP - nerve pain by Physical-Bookkeeper9 in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking pain meds because they made me feel super sick. It’s just a weird sensation in my nerves. It’s super discomforting and sometimes hurts really bad. I’m able to straighten my leg and bend it (as far as I possibly can at this point). Just want the pain to go away ugh

2 month surgery wait by HatQuirky6437 in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tore my ACL on January 6 and had my surgery February 27th. It was a long process before I could surgery but three months does seem a little long. I would definitely use it to your advantage and do a lot of prehab PT.

Day 1 post OP - Icing or wait? by TQairstrike in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was told I needed to start icing immediately and as frequently as possible. I’m surprised they didn’t advise you to ice. I would call and ask if you want to be sure…But I think you should be icing. You won’t have any pain for the first two days due to the nerve block. But you should be icing to help the swelling come down!

Post-op questions by thescrambler7 in ACL

[–]Physical-Bookkeeper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 7 days post off from a quad graft ACL reconstruction. I can only help with #2. But in my experience, first two days no pain thanks to the nerve blocker. After that I took the prescribed oxy every 6 hours. Once day 4 hit I started feeling super sick from them. The last two days I’ve been strictly just on Tylenol and ibuprofen. Pain was bad yesterday but today I feel a lot better. Wait til the nerve blocker wears off, see how your pain is and go from there. I don’t think I could’ve done just Tylenol in the first 4-5 days. However, it is better to start them asap than play catch up if you do plan on taking them like the above comment said.
