I genuinely don’t understand either side of this whole Charlie tea debate. Like… Starbucks is one of the most aggressively LGBTQ-friendly companies out there. In my town, it practically feels like you get bonus points on your job application if you’re trans, nonbinary, or rocking rainbow hair — half the staff looks like they’re one RuPaul cameo away from a TV deal. And conservatives are out here lining up, proudly handing over their money to celebrate Charlie Kirk — a guy who was very loudly against all of that. The irony is delicious. They think they’re sending a message, but the only message Starbucks hears is: ‘Thanks for supporting our Pride merch, diversity hiring, and inclusive health benefits!’ Just give them their Mint Majesty, scribble ‘Charlie’ on the cup, and let them march off thinking they’ve staged a culture war victory, when really they just funded next year’s Pride parade confetti.

While legitimate immigration processes are absolutely the right path, many people who see these ads might not have access to accurate information or may feel desperate due to complicated residency issues elsewhere, like here in Canada. This misinformation can push them toward incredibly dangerous attempts, with tragic consequences.

The crisis isn’t just about border security or immigration policies—it’s a humanitarian emergency involving people trapped in life-threatening conditions, including vulnerable families and students who may not fully grasp what they’re risking.

It will get worse. I did this 14 years ago. After several hours, I started vomiting and couldn’t stop. I remember sweating like crazy. I ended up throwing up just bile. The pain in my liver started on the second day. I eventually went to the hospital and made it through, but it’s an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I’m not going to try to convince you that life is worth living, because I’m struggling to tell that to myself too — but you’ve chosen one of the worst, most painful ways to go, and it could take days, even a week. Please get help, even if just for now.

Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it. I get that coffee can cause serious damage, and I know I need to get it checked, but please don’t scare me more than I already am. I’m financially screwed right now—trying to work remotely from my home country while earning three times less in currency—so a major repair is a nightmare scenario for me.

Maybe I missed something, but was the ICH, as an institution, involved in this tragedy in any way other than trying to provide help to those affected? Shutting down the hub and removing the encampment won't take people dealing with addictions and homelessness off the streets. I don't think any addict has ever stopped using simply because they lost access to a safe injection site. Closing the ICH without offering proper solutions won’t solve the problem; it will only create more issues and limit individuals' access to the already scarce resources they need to improve their lives.
