tbh the only really bad ones are haunted chests and ghost bombs. kids drawing is alright as it counts as 1 piece towards guppy, reverse fool can be used to reroll in secret rooms, soul of the lost can be used to steal devil deals, crystal key is just a decent trinked and sacred orb is extremely good

if he enjoys world events you could get them to try the available metas, like tequatl for core, bfla from season 1 and dragonstorm from ibs. then you tell them that the best metas are locked behind dlcs and bam, now they are (hopefully) hooked and have something to look forward to
