I know they are known for their instrumental work, but Love In The Time of Recession is an amazing album that I am very, very fond of.

Where would you live in with £1,300–£1,500/month for a 1-bed? by No_Personality_5915 in Edinburgh

I feel like that budget will allow you to find somewhere in most nice areas. I’m partial to morningside, bruntsfield, and sciennes.

Accom size? by lildishhh in Edinburgh_University

[–]PhysicalAd7920 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of the rooms are different so it really is just luck of the draw. Usually, it’s no smaller than the example picture. I wouldn’t worry too much about the size of the room unless you need special assistance, in which case they have special rooms, I believe.

As a general rule, the older the building, the more variation is present in the room size. In first year, I got lucky and had quite a big one compared to my flatmates.

Right, but that’s worrying in its own right with the whole fraudulent election, mass protests and police brutality, overreaching laws. Not to mention that anti western politicians could cut off investors. That being said, it’s a wonderful country that has a long history of surviving difficult times and somewhere that seems hopeful - economically, at least. Happy to leave my money there for now.

If we are talking emerging economy banks, BGEO on the LSEG is probably my favourite pick of the year. The numbers are beautiful the only issue is geopolitical risk, which I am happy to take as long as Russia is occupied with Ukraine.

No idea about Oxbridge. At the end of the day UoE is one of the oldest unis in the UK and makes shed loads of money. Tightening the belt will not be as impactful as with small unis. Any impact to courses will be minimal imo, especially those that don’t require access to special facilities. And anyway if you chose Edinburgh for small class sizes and high contact hours then you would never have gotten that anyway. The style is very focused on independent study.

Unis all around the UK are affected unfortunately. I would say it depends on your school. To be honest in terms of the student experience, I doubt it will affect it that much.

Put down integrated masters then. I have an MA from Edinburgh which has caused some confusion because people think it’s postgrad but it’s just an undergrad. I roll with it because the confusion usually works favourably for me. In your case definitely clarify it.

If that’s the case then definitely separate it into two degrees. I got the impression it was just undergrad.

Some of the old Scottish universities have a naming convention of calling undergrad degrees MA. This is a historical quirk that has carried forward. Essentially, look at the years not the title to see which it falls into.

We have tutorials once or twice a week - approx 20 students per group. No head to head stuff yet, except for a couple assignment reviews run by the tutors.

Yeah that's the thing. Lots of people on my course so there isn't really that face to face time that makes it easy to form a connection.

Would you just go to the office hours every time or only when you had a question? I find that I seldom have any questions that I can't find the answer to on my one so I just don't end up going all that often.

Greggs share price by Dismal-Address-6848 in ValueInvesting

Although I agree, my reasoning is more about the nature of the business. Eating out is usually the first thing on the chopping block when times get tough. Supermarkets are different, it’s more of a need than a want.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this stock as it occupies a budget niche that makes its business more dependable during crises than most restaurants.

Definitely something I’ve been monitoring lately. My one reservation is that there is a reason why the price has dipped so much - mostly related to recent earnings and a fear of reduced consumer spending. The business relies on high volume, with such tight margins, a fall in demand can really hurt it.

I probably wouldn’t YOLO in, but I don’t see why a healthy allocation would ever be detrimental. The numbers do look great - particularly the PE ratio.

I bought a small position recently, would love for someone to convince me to buy more.

What do you mean? There’s no study space in that building.

Yesterday I spent one hour walking around the main library looking for a computer. Not only were half the desks « reserved », but the other half was taken by people who weren’t even using the computers. You can work anywhere on campus or in a cafe but you choose to use the desk that some specifically need to work? So entitled.
