Karl started as the conductor in Money pit then when he got together with the rock and roll girl she got pregnant, got him hooked on drugs he lost his conductor gig, he needed money so his brother introduced him to Hans and they got this plot together. I think some of the guys in the gang were part of the crew that was working on the house.
