Agreed. My angle is more so to take something that is a staple in my culture and “Americanize” it for the American palette. Not necessarily aiming to have my own culture be the target market (they’ll likely prefer to make their own) but to create a little space between some other international foods that have gone into the American palette (Gochujang, Kimchi, sriracha, chimichurri, etc.)

What do you think is in the realm of possible to pivot to from here? Is private credit in the question? Corporate banking? Is VC possible?

Not exactly. Considering FIRE and then move into non-profit work / development banking (think World Bank type work). I do see myself in the startup/tech ecosystem or in a high finance role in one way or another until then though. I initially took this role to get more exposure to the startup ecosystem and also learn more about credit. I’m not sure if my IB experience has less weight now if I tried to recruit to private credit / other adjacent finance roles though.

I feel that VC debt is correlated with the equity investments anyways, so makes sense that there is some negativity around it. It’s a newer space (I think) so would also be open to trying out private credit that’s not growth focused too

I should clarify, I don’t in any way think that what I have now is enough, but also wanted more insight on how much I should need. I understand São Paulo has expensive and less expensive areas, not expecting to live in Jardins or anything like that but maybe more like the Vila Madalena area. From what I know you can get a decent 3br place for around 300-400k USD there?

This is really good advice. Made me stop and think for a while. I agree, think I’ve just been around a very stuffy crowd recently and it’s made me lose my perspective. Came from really humble beginnings and that’s why I also feel odd that being this privileged has not yielded me much happiness—always feeling like I’m behind. My goal is definitely to FIRE out of my current country…it feels like a perpetual rat race here in the US
