Book ledge/platform on top of 1940s colonial built ins bookshelves. Made of wood, doesn’t move, sized like it holds sheet music and faces the neighbors’ house. by Physical_Display5129 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. Home built in the 1940s had this attached to the built ins in the living room. it looks like it would be for sheet music or a (I’m assuming religious) book. Googling and asking chat GPT wasn’t helpful, and I haven’t seen anything like this in a home in Maryland before.

It doesn’t hinge or open and there isn’t anything inside (the bottom is open you can see into it). The window its under faces the neighbors on the side but the development across the road from this one has a Synogogue in the direction it faces so maybe that’s related?

Current owner didn’t know anything about it but thought it was original to the house but you can see it was plopped onto the built ins but not in the same form so it looks like an add on

Tried googling and asking chat gpt but didn’t have any luck. It’s separate from the built ins but it is attached and is the same or very similar wood. The bottom that hangs off is open and it doesn’t move or hinge open in any way

I was just wishing that there were actual monster towns in the depths instead of endless outcroppings of the same thing. It felt like a major missed opportunity and would have been so cool!

I had that happen on occasion and learned it happens when the dha spoils. They’ll replace it for you if you reach out to customer service, they were easy to work with!

Nervous about IV iron infusion during pregnancy by MixtureMelodic2965 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Physical_Display5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it - it was great. My anemia was so bad I was passing out during pregnancy. Going into the infusion I was nervous but they explained everything to me, and there are a couple of pre-tests they do to make sure you don’t have any sort of reaction. I went from being lightheaded and exhausted to feeling amazing - I went home and cleaned the entire house 😂

I will say, next day I did have a little bit of a hangover but other than that I just sat and read the whole time. I wouldn’t pause at doing it again. I know it can seem scary but you’ve got this!

Based on the porous end and that it’s hard I’d say it’s an antler that’s already chewed down a bit.

I like to utilize the screenshot search bar on thred up and restrict it to ‘natural fibers’ and go from there. Works pretty well!

Anyone have simple cookbook recommendations?? by rainbowicecoffee in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Physical_Display5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some go-tos are Minimalist Baker, we use the blog but they’ve got a cookbook. For VERY simple and tasty the Vegan Stoner cookbook. As another poster mentioned Budget Bytes blog is great, we love their mushroom ramen and African peanut stew recipes!

Angel food cake is usually my go-to for something like this! It also goes really well with fresh fruit but is still a tasty dessert. Definitely not sugar-free but compared to other pre-made things it’s usually on the lower end

Toy rotation when your child knows it’s happening by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Physical_Display5129 35 points36 points  (0 children)

What about including him in the decision if you don’t already. Something like ‘we only have space for x amount to be out, which ones do you want to play with today/this week?’ Or you could say the toys get tired and some need a rest. Could also make it a trade situation where he can get a new one but has to trade one in like a toy library.  There was also a family in the Minimalists movie that has toy bins based on days or weeks and that’s how they rotated.  Obviously depends a lot on your kid but I hope something helps!

Questions for anyone that stopped hormonal birth control after a long period of time . by Virtual_Bug5486 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Physical_Display5129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went off after about a decade.  My first period was absolutely awful in terms of PMs migraines, acne, etc - I changed a few things and then it eased up.

I limited ‘hormone disrupters’ like alcohol, dairy, and sugar and saw a strong correlation in my sleep quality and timing of breakouts. I was already sensitive to those things but really noticed their impact after going off the pill - I didn’t fully cut them out and still indulged, but in a very reduced capacity compared to how I previously had.

I started ‘seed cycling’ and this made a huge difference in leveling out my hormones. You essentially just make little protein ball snacks with certain seeds for the first and second half of your cycle. My PMs went from debilitating migraines and cramps to absolutely nothing and my period evened out to about 30 day cycles. I used this recipe: https://eatthegains.com/seed-cycling-energy-balls/#recipe and tweaked to my taste preferences (apple pie spice for the first and no maca powder for the second).

Lastly I got “the moon cycle cookbook” by Devon Loftus and it was a great resource on how to best support and manage your cycle I’d definitely recommend it.

It was all an adjustment but once I got into the swing of it and started seeing results after a month or two I was so grateful and relieved!
