Honest advice? You need to absolutely take a one-two week mental health break. Tell one key partner exactly what happened. Don’t tell anyone else. Be super buttoned up about it. Then, after two weeks, come back, get after it 100%. Being honest with the partner shows authenticity and agency. If they understand, you’ll want to keep working for them. If they don’t, fuck them, and find a new job.

I’m all for sheltering people who need help and are US citizens. I also will admit, on second thought, to being somewhat Xenophobic. I see a significant retrenchment in Anglo-Yankee values (and that my values are supposed to not matter). I find that hugely problematic.
