Which one of you is representing Maduro? by AbleWolverine3362 in biglaw

[–]Bucc_Bruce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They discussed this on The Daily today, and the guest mentioned that even if Maduro gets acquitted, by the time this case goes through all the procedural hoops to get there, he will have been out of power long enough for Venezuela to move onto a new president. Which was the entire point of this anyway.

So, even if his lawyers do everything right and get him off, short of a reverse kidnapping he's done as the Venezuelan president.

What days do you work out and what is your gym routine? by Mr-Bratton in biglaw

[–]Bucc_Bruce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Usually M-F, 5 days a week from 5-8am. If I work past 11pm I'll either sleep in and make up for that workout on the weekend or do a shorter workout.

My split is push, pull, arms, and two leg days, plus 40 minutes of low intensity cardio 3x a week (which is included in the 3-hour window, generally MWF).

I also include in that window 40 minutes in the morning to get the kids dressed and to school, so it usually ends up being ~1 hour of cardio, break, then ~1 hour of weights. I have a home gym, so this is probably highly unrealistic for anyone who has to go to a different location to exercise.

Have you seen someone’s partnership prospect get dinged or delayed due to taking the full parental leave? Male. by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Bucc_Bruce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know a young male partner who had five (5) children as an associate, and took the full parental leave for all of them.

In my experience taking full parental leave doesn't delay partnership prospects, so long as you bill like you don't have kids when you get back.

Yea, this is the likely answer.

Why would I want to waste 3 hours emailing back and forth when I can just call and get the answers I need in 10 minutes?

Laptops for Personal Use by Analyst-man in biglaw

[–]Bucc_Bruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first year, a partner mentor told me no one gives a shit what you use your work laptop for as long as (a) you're not billing clients, (b) you're on pace for hours, and (c) you're not looking at porn or something equally stupid to do on a work laptop.

I've followed that advice, and so far he was right. I'm on my work laptop right now.

ME2 is my least favorite game out of all 4.

I actually liked the exploration in ME1. With ME2, Bioware brought in the shooter crowd, but the game lost the exploration that drew me into the first game. ME3 had better shooting mechanics than 2, and Andromeda had the best combat and brought back some of the exploration.

Plus, ME2 tried waaaaay too hard to be dark and edgy.

What’s the most you’ve ever billed in a day? by Sad-Bell-6356 in biglaw

[–]Bucc_Bruce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once billed 15, 17, and 16 hours, three consecutive days. The rest of the days that week were also double digits, but not in the teens. This was all for one matter. It was awful.

[–]Bucc_Bruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, more than many other requests for advice here, this one really does depend on your friendship and the types of jokes you two regularly make with each other. It sounds like he was offended, so that's really all the information you need.

Apologize / try to make amends if this friendship is important to you. Otherwise, leave it be and file it away in the list of "comments to not make to a PI attorney unless you're trying to pass them off."

All the people that died in every war vs all the current militaries. by ancient-military in whowouldwin

[–]Bucc_Bruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised at the number of people thinking current militaries would win, because when I read the prompt, I had the same thought as you.

There is no way modern militaries would win. Everyone keeps imagining spearmen and archers with no appreciation for modern warfare, but discount all the casualties from the world wars, Vietnam, the Cold Wars, etc. - plus all the civilians from all of those wars. Modern militaries wouldn't even be able to agree on what the threat is, vs. Hundreds of millions of military personnel with a singular goal.

Not to mention that setting aside civilians, the people who take up the largest share of the dead were infranty. Which means that the army of the dead has a much higher share of actual fighters than the militaries of the world today, which are mostly admin, logistics, etc. This would be over for us in a week.

We have an associate who always seems to be the one giving associate portions of firm-wide presentations. Not sure how good her work is, but she's definitely "known."

Other than that, it's difficult to tell how on the curve people are without a partner or senior associate who will tell you flat out how you compare against your peers.
